Runescape Shortcuts - Hidey Holes and Rope Racks - A "How To" Guide

You can read the blog about the guide... or just click on the link here for the actual guide:
Runescape Agility Shortcuts: How to Build Hidey Holes and Rope Racks Guide
And of course:
Runescape Cooking - Feel the Burn:How To Cook Rocktail Fish Without Burning: What You Do From Level 93 to 95

Been really hopping recently - Aside from playing with my new Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Netbook Tablet Computer (my caps- I really love this little netbook!) I've been catching up on all the work (and play) that's fallen behind.  You may have noticed several new Runescape blogs in the last few days.
Today's blog is short and sweet, and relates to the hubpages I write (see sidebar.)  With all the updates recently, there's been a lot going on in Runescape.  And with so many BIG changes, there's been a minor change that didn't catch a lot of notice.
The shortcuts update, Hidey-Holes and Rope Racks.  This small, unsung update is a lot more important than you'd suspect.  Sure, the Rope Racks aren't such a big deal.  After all, how many of us truly use the Eagle Transport System that much?  But the Hidey-Holes are a very nice change.  Out of all the Runescape agility shortcuts, the crossbow-and-grapple shortcuts have been, as a class, the most useless.  I mean really, who just happens to carry a crossbow and grapple around by accident?  If you've got them with you, you planned for it.
As a result, most of us ignore those shortcuts.  Jagex finally did something about it... with a little work, those shortcuts will forever after be easy to access!
...Yes, I did say 'a little work'.  Don't panic, it's not that hard.  When I first looked into it, I realized there were the 'repeaters' all over the internet; you know, the sites that just cut and paste quotes from Jagex.  And there were good informational sites that offered dictionary definitions of certain aspects.   But nobody had bothered yet to tie it all together into one step by step guide.
I play a lot.  Obviously, since I blog about it.  But I've only done one guide previously.  There's no sense writing a guide that's already been written about 50 times or more all over the internet.  So my one and only guide up until now has been the 'cooking Rocktails' guide.  I wrote it because it was a helpful technique, very useful between cooking levels of 93 to 95, and nobody had written one.
The Hidey-Hole and Rope Rack guide came about in the same way.  I couldn't find one, and it seemed like a useful idea, so I wound up writing it myself.  I hope you find it useful!

That must have sucked!
I got on! Try to top that glitch! :P

Yeah, our whole neighborhood was about to riot. The Comcast(Xfinity) trucks were always parked in front of someone's home, until they realized it was something to do with the distribution point.
Anyway, way to go! LOL... Glad you got back in.

Anonymous said...

Have you done the Halloween event yet? I did it on Monday.

Anonymous said...

Oh, sorry it took me a while to respond. I forgot I needed to go click on newest because we past 400 comments.

Crewman6 said...

No problem about the delay- I figured you might be busy.
The Halloween event, Monique and I did on Monday evening. We started near midnight, and didn't finish till one. I really liked it. Jagex sure pulled out the stops, making such a huge and unique environment. Unless all citadels are like that... I've never been to one before, since I don't like clans. The emote was cool, the other stuff went straight into my house toybox.

Anonymous said...

What level is the toybox? I don't have one. I'm trying pest control now. I want the void knight stuff. Then it's back to getting the berserker ring imbued.

Crewman6 said...

Toy box is Construction 50, 68, and 86. The whole room is a very useful extension of the bank for storing specific items.

I wondered, I hadn't seen you in a few days at Mobilising Armies. I'm not currently interested in the void knight gear, but if I ever decide I need them, I'll do the whole manic-obsessive thing again and power-train until it's there.
Speaking of the obsessive training thing, I got my imbued ring this morning. Now I can go back to working on a chaotic rapier!

Anonymous said...

Nicely done! I'm a few levels away form the toybox.
I should get my construction up to 50. I'm at 47. I have about 160 commendations. I think a need around 1k of them. I'm on my way!

Crewman6 said...

Thanks! Up to 50 shouldn't be that hard. Just make oak larders in the kitchen. Kind of boring, but fast and cheap.
Good start on the commendations. Hang in there, when you finally hit that goal, it's all worth it!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I got to level 40 to 50 with them. I also have my toybox!

Crewman6 said...

Way to go! That was fast. Glad you got there so quickly.

Did you read the updates about no reflection bots? I had to google it to find out what that was. But it's about doggone time! I'm so excited about this. Maybe without all the darn bots the game will get back to normal. I bet the economy will bounce a lot. I'm thinking this might be a good time to by cheap commodities, and hold on to. Seems to me, once the bots are gone and prices drift back to normal, they should settle at a more expensive level.

Anonymous said...

Right. That's a smart idea.

Crewman6 said...

Shoot... I just realized, armor and weapons should do the same thing. I've been saving up for Bandos armor. I've got enough to buy it now, but won't have much left over. I wanted to have more in the bank, but if there's a chance the price is going up, I'd better go ahead now, and rebuild my money later.

Anonymous said...

I want Bandos armour too. But I'm not very close. :(

Crewman6 said...

Went for it. I now own Bandos armor... and less than 3 million in gold. Not enough to flip for profit, guess I'll have to go earn it back the hard way.

Anonymous said...

Now we have the same amount of money! Lol! I spent a lot of money on potions. I'm about to try for the Jad again. :) I'll tell you how it goes!

Crewman6 said...

:^D
Good luck at Jad. Now that Ancient Curses no longer kills Jad without the healers, I'm gathering the necessary things to go after him with a fast-kill melee approach. I have all the levels (Overloads), and all the gear except for a chaotic rapier. I've currently got 78k rewards, and need 200k total. I'll be a while.
Can't wait to hear how Jad went for you!

Anonymous said...

I got closer, but not to Jad. I think I only had 10 or so more to go until I got to Jad. I might be able to do it with Sara brew. If I was able to get to Jad maybe I should switch to Bandos armour from Karil's top and bottom. What do you think? (By the way, I don't have Bandos armour. But I could save up for it.)

Crewman6 said...

I'm not sure. Karil's and Bandos aren't too far apart in terms of defense. I think I'd look more at my approach. I assume you're ranging with a Rune Crossbow, so you can carry something defensive? Do you have the leveled-up Excalibur? That's my main resource. I use it to heal while safe-spotting, and sometimes even just 'park' until it recharges.
Sara Brews might help, but the most important tool in my inventory is the Excalibur. It both heals, and raises my defense, and every 5 minutes, it's complete ready to use again.
That, more than anything, will help you get to Jad. I should know- I can get to Jad easy, just have trouble prayer-switching long enough to kill him.

Anonymous said...

I'm switching between melee and ranged. I'm always using the dragon fire shield, The only things changing are going from rune crossbow to the whip. How do you get Excalibur?
Thanks for the tips!

Crewman6 said...

You get the basic Excalibur from the Merlin's Crystal Quest. At this point, all it does is raise your defense a bit. To upgrade it the first time, you have to complete the Seer's Village hard tasks. Now it will raise your defense plus heal you 200 hit points in small increments over a 10-second interval.
If you complete the Elite Seer's Village tasks, you can upgrade it to 400 hp healing over a 20-second period.
By this time, it's defensive improvement is nearly as good as a Super-Defense.

Completing the Elite Seers tasks might be more of a goal than you want to do in one bite. But if you do the quest, get the sword, then do the Hard Seer's tasks, it should still be amazingly helpful in the Fight Caves.

If you're low on hp, and your special energy isn't recharged yet, just find a safespot and kill a few minutes until it's recharged. Since it takes exactly 5 minutes to recharge, you won't have to wait too too long.

Using this technique, I almost never have to eat on the way to Jad. Now if I can just perfect my Jad-killing technique, I'd be set!

And... You're very welcome!

Anonymous said...

I took a look at the tasks. I think I'll be fletching until I die. I can get 80 easily with the skills I like... but fletching is not one of them.

Crewman6 said...

I understand... I have several skills like that too. Excalibur is a goal well worth the effort, but maybe not all in one run. Maybe if you put your penguin and troll points to it occasionally it would help.

Anonymous said...

I might want to get it to 60 before I give it free xp. I'll try some of the tasks after all these bonuses from Bot-Nuking day. They ARE really awesome!

Crewman6 said...

That's a good point, since the free exp is pro-rated to your skill level. You're right about the bot-bonuses, too. They are truly exceptional. We did penguins last night, they get reset tonight, and can be redone with double exp. How cool does it get?
Plus all the other bonuses. I think I'll Soul Wars on Friday. Triple exp!

Anonymous said...

I've been doing Castle wars today, it's not a lot of fun with a few 100k people on each team! (At least it felt like that!)
On the slayer day (Tuesday...I think) I went up a few levels, I happy with that!

Do you have any tips for training fletching? It's 45, yeah...I don't like it.

Crewman6 said...

I can imagine... every body still playing wants the bonus points. Glad you took advantage of Slayer; Monique did some, but we just had too much work to do for much playtime that day.
Fletching, mostly common sense. As soon as possible, start fletching Magic logs. Take your laptop to the living room, plug in a movie, and train fletching at the GE while you watch a movie.
Nothing dazzling there, but hope something helps.

Anonymous said...

Thanks (again) for the tips!
If you want to try soul wars today... If you got in world 9, there aren't to many people playing. Just the right amount! (It might not be like that anymore, but it was when I was there.)

Crewman6 said...

You're welcome; and thanks for thinking of me with Soul Wars. But... I did something really stupid last night. Cool, but stupid. The update began last night at 8 my time, and at 9:30 I sat down, started playing SW. Nearly 9 hours later, I had 103 Zeal points, and got Baby Jad #2. Then I slept for an hour and a half before work. :^)
I don't regret it- I'm very happy to have the 2nd one!

Anonymous said...

As I was reading that my face looked like this...
:()
Why did you get 1 more? Wow... nicely done.
I thought it was hard to get Void knight armour, then here you are with a new jad! Crazzzzy! You are insanely good. (It's a FACT, not an opinion.) Wow!

Crewman6 said...

LOL... I got one more because I don't want to play Soul Wars enough for any more baby J's!
I don't know about the 'good' part, buy Monique completely agrees with you about the 'insane' part!
Didn't get to play much yesterday- we had a big costume party, and then some of our family stayed the night... slept in the computer room. Really tired today, trying to decide... sleep, or Runescape?

Anonymous said...

Sleepscape.

I did troll invasion today. I used my Void knight melee outfit. No ranged. No prayer pots. 10 sword fish. One 4-dose super set. Well... I killed Clif. He didn't even hit a thing.

Godsword + Void Knight armour = dead Clif
Void Knight armour is great!

Crewman6 said...

Wow- Now it's my turn to be impressed. I had no idea Void Knight armour was that good. Very cool! I'd like to get a godsword, but at the moment my cash pile is kind of tiny.
I tried Jad today with melee only... didn't even get to him. At level 59, I thought I was praying magic, and accidentally turned on soul split. The 360 killed me quickly, before I realized my mistake.

Anonymous said...

Darn!

If you do get a godsword, what one would you get? I got Zamorak because of the special attack. If you hit anything, you freeze the monster (or player) for 20 seconds. Who needs ice barrage when you have a Zamorak godsword! :)

Crewman6 said...

I would get the sword that heals/restores prayer points. Sara, I think? Zamorak sounds pretty cool too.
It took 3 tries to figure out a good melee technique. Now I can get to Jad in about 50 minutes. Then he kills me. Actually, I think I have a fair chance of meleeing him. It was neck and neck and he won by a sliver of green. I take that as a positive sign.

Anonymous said...

Urggg! Firefox, (The program I play runescape on.) Is crashing a lot!!!!! I can get about 1-10 minutes of game play.

I got a new slayer task. 180 Blue dragons. :) The only bad thing is... the first one to hit it, gets it. I could get the drop if it was multi-combat. But I can't get the dragon!!!! I'm 'world hopping' from 144 to 160. Usually one of them is good!

Crewman6 said...

Monique and I had the freezing and crashing tonight while penguin hunting too. The crash actually sent us to a crash page. We've been luckier than most, though. Not too bad, mainly lag and some freezing.
Good luck on the dragons. Can you go to Kuradel's dungeon? She only lets you in if you have an assigned task of one of her dungeon's monsters. Blue Dragons are in there. But I don't know if you have to be assigned by her or not.

By the way, I made a video of my 2 Jads, and posted it in my newest blog. Also wrote a more detailed hubpage about it, in the links to the side. If you want to see my menagerie, watch the video.

Hope world 160 worked for you. It's my favorite world.

Anonymous said...

I liked the video! :)
A lot of worlds went away, including 160! :(
I'm using world 96 now. It's also a 'no talking world.'

Crewman6 said...

Thanks, I'm glad you did!
Yeah, I noticed. I haven't gotten to play yet today, just barely home from a family visit. I sure hope Jagex hasn't 'integrity'd themselves out of business. Still, I'm proud of them for making the stand. I've put world 96 on my favorites list, next to world 60 for Penguin hunting.

Anonymous said...

Sorry I haven't been replying like normal. I've been SO busy, I just don't have the time in the day.
If I'm lucky I can get 30 minutes of game-play. Urrrrrrggggggg...

Crewman6 said...

Sorry you've been so busy. I've had days like that, though I've been pretty lucky lately. Keep your spirits up; you'll get back to normal sooner or later!

Anonymous said...

Yeah... in about a week or so.

Have you tried the Dominion Tower?

Crewman6 said...

Not yet. I was REALLY hoping they'd put Jad in the tower. Looking on the forums, seems like a lot of other people did too. Oh well. I've been playing with Jad a lot. Once or twice a day, as time permits. I'm getting lots better. Lasted 13 minutes with him tonight, but I still don't have all the coordination to do everything at once and still kill him... But getting better every time.
At least I've got the entire trip down to less than an hour now.

Anonymous said...

That's pretty good! Less then 1 hour... wow.

Do you think there are any quests that are a sort of 'Must Have?'

Crewman6 said...

Finally got Jad. After all those failed attempts, it was pretty cool.

There are so many quests, and so many really useful rewards, it's hard to narrow it down. But one of my top favorite items is the Soul Wars cape, which gives 12 prayer bonus. So Nomad's Requiem was a good one for me. I also liked the recent one with the Drakkan's Medallion.
But honestly, Monique and I do quests together like it's date night. We eagerly await each new one as it comes out.

Were you getting ready to do a quest? When I was first starting, I'd always check the rewards first, and pick the one with the coolest stuff at the end.

Anonymous said...

I do want to do Nomad's Requiem. I didn't know how good that cape was!

Crewman6 said...

Just brace yourself when you do. Nomad was probably the toughest quest boss we've ever done. Took a good couple of weeks to win the big fight with him. But then again, I'm not very good at complex fighting skills, and Nomad is extremely complex.
I'd suggest to find a good guide for the final fight.

Anonymous said...

I'm going on a trip for work. :( Anyway, I'm going to be gone for a few days. The hotel that I will be staying at has internet connection. (Yay!) I will be able to respond and stuff, but I won't get a lot of free time.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like me- I hate travel. Still, maybe you'll find some time to relax. Be safe, and try to enjoy.

Anonymous said...

I will!

Crewman6 said...

Don't know if you've begun your travels yet or not. I've been intensely editing a video for Youtube, while fishing for Rocktail. Noticed at one point you'd just logged out.

Anonymous said...

I did go one day ago. That day I had about 12 hours of my time taken up by the evil work. :P At that time I just wanted to relax.

Crewman6 said...

Wow, long day. I understand about needing to relax. We had a big family yard sale yesterday. I don't have to do 'customer service' so much, but it's my job to carry everything out and back in. We're taking today off!

Anonymous said...

I'm glad you have time to relax.

Crewman6 said...

Lol! Thanks, I hope you get some too. Tonight I got 98 fishing, while writing for another website. Sometimes I write for the love of it, and sometimes for more... worldly concerns. But it's best when I write for profit about something I love. And even better when I can fish while I work!! :^)
Seriously, I try to make a supplemental income online. My writing is always better when it's something I care about, so I try to combine earning a living with things I enjoy. Tonight I was writing about radio controlled toys. One of my favorite subjects!

Anonymous said...

That's a cool hobby!

I got back tonight. When I left there was no snow or rain, it was just I nice sunny day... then I got back. It was foggy, there was snow pelting me in the face and wind that looked like it could have made the plane I just got off of blow away to Mars!

Crewman6 said...

Holy cow- I'm surprised they allowed the plane to fly in that weather! What a home-coming welcome. Still, I'm glad you made it home safely. Now you can get back to normal routine.

Anonymous said...

I got a new top hit with my Void Melee, Zamorak Godsword...(ect.) I hit a 426 with super strength pots! Then I tried using prayer too. I hit a 448!

Crewman6 said...

Now THAT's a better welcome home! Cool hits!
Because of you, I'm actually thinking much better of the Void Armor. As much as I hate team games, I might grit my teeth and try it.
For now, I'm finishing off my fishing. Just made 98, I'll just catch Rocktail until 99.

Anonymous said...

Once you have 99 fishing, how many 99's will you have?
The Void armour is awesome! It takes about 5-10 hours to get one set. It took me about 9 hours.

Crewman6 said...

I'm at 12, Fishing will be my 13th 99. Got a loooong way to go for a completionists cape!!

I'm at the stage right now where I WANT the Void
Armor, but haven't yet reached the stage where I'm willing to WORK for it. Eventually the scales will tip the other way, and I'll go obsess on it until done. 10 hours doesn't sound too horrible... I guess... :^)

Anonymous said...

If you space it out (like I did) it's not that bad.

If your going to do barrows again, you should use black salamanders. They can use all styles of attack. (ranged, melee and magic) Look on wiki to find out more.

Crewman6 said...

My mood regarding Barrows swings up and down a lot. Currently I'm in the middle of a long dry spell. I've gone about 30 trips without a good drop, the average is supposed to be 12. Grumble mutter barrows brothers!!!
Anyway, I usually use Fire Surge on Barrows, but the Salamander sounds like fun. Does it combine well with the Void Armor? Seems like they'd go hand in hand.

Anonymous said...

They do if you have different Void Knight helms. Changing from helm to helm changes the combat style.
I think I might want to get the ranged helm. Good luck if you try the barrows again!

Crewman6 said...

That sounds cool. And space-saving!
I'll need luck with the Barrows. They used to like me, now I get nothing. My Christmas stocking from the Barrows Brothers wouldn't even have a rock in it.

Anonymous said...

You could try using a ring of wealth.

Crewman6 said...

Good suggestion, but I use one every time. I'm just in the middle of a long dry spell. It didn't help that during the recent double-barrows weekend, Monique racked up doubles of all kinds of cool barrows gear! Oh well... at least she didn't gloat!

Anonymous said...

On that weekend I got two Guthan's Platebodies! (Only in one run!) Nice skillcape! ;)

Crewman6 said...

Man, that's just awesome. Double the good stuff! I'm thinking on trying a few runs tonight. Now that I've finished Fishing, not sure what I'll focus on next. Just play around a bit.

Anonymous said...

Good luck with the barrows!

Crewman6 said...

Thanks! I did a couple last night, nothing special. Not ready to give up just yet, I think I'll try a few more today.
Forgot about penguins last night... guess we'd better do those, too!

Anonymous said...

Tell me if you get anything good next time!

Crewman6 said...

Did about 6 runs, still nothing. This has been a long dry spell. Today, I spent time chopping ivy and flipping at the GE. Flipping still works, but it's so much slower than it used to be, and the items generally have to be a lot more expensive. At least I got a lot of woodcutting exp!

Anonymous said...

What's your woodcutting level?

Crewman6 said...

I can proudly say, after the last 2 days, I've gone from 90 to 91...
But I'm halfway to 92!

Anonymous said...

I'm at 91 too!

Crewman6 said...

... Make that 92! It's 1:24 am here, and I just leveled up. Going to bed now. Tomorrow's our 7th anniversary, we're already beginning to celebrate. Guess how we're spending the day? Building model kits and having Ruby Tuesdays Steak! Is my wife cool, or what? :^)

Anonymous said...

Congratulations! :)

I've been playing a lot of Castle Wars games lately.
I got an amulet of fury yesterday, I really like it!

Crewman6 said...

Thanks! It's been a great day. I finished most of the painting on my model, and Monique has done the basis black on her Dracula model. It's her first one in years, but I think we chose a good one for a starter project.
Congrats on the Fury- I think it's the best general-purpose necklace/amulet in the game.

Anonymous said...

I can tell the difference from the glory!

Crewman6 said...

I agree- it makes a significant difference.
Have you tried the new polypore dungeon? Not sure when I will. Might wait till the mad rush slows down first.

Anonymous said...

I haven't yet. I'm doing some more pest control. I need to get the ranged helm. Once I have that, I might go for the void magic too!

Crewman6 said...

That makes a lot of sense. If you've got the set, you might as well have all three helms. Hope it goes well!

Anonymous said...

Have you read the Behind the Scenes December page?
There are going to be some awesome updates!

Crewman6 said...

Believe it or not, I was on the way home from work and Monique was telling me all about it on the drive! We're both psyched about it. You're right, looks like a lot of really cool updates. Plus, she and I are still saving up for the level 3 aura that boosts exp for 30 minutes a day. 40,000 points... we're almost to 30,000!

Anonymous said...

I got Verac's set, I'm going to fight the kalphite!
Why? I don't know, just for fun! :)

Crewman6 said...

That's the best reason EVER! Hope you enjoy it. Good luck!

Anonymous said...

I'm going to do it after lunch today. It didn't work to do it this morning, too many things came up.

Anonymous said...

Wow! The Kalphite Queen is really strong! I prayed magic... so it decided to devour me with ranged! I just got out of there with my house tele before it could rip my head off. Don't you love not being beheaded? Oh well, maybe I could kill her when I'm a higher level.

Crewman6 said...

I think you can do it. Might have to find a decent guide to help.
We've had friends over all day. It's about 10:30 here, and we're finally settling down for the evening. Might get to play for a bit!

Anonymous said...

I love the new updates with the money bag, bank spaces, and the tool-belt! They are so awesome!

Crewman6 said...

I do too. The money bag needs an "all" option, so we can just dump everything from it to the bank, but otherwise it's very handy.
The bank spaces... are always VERY welcome!

And the tool belt. I love the idea, and it's already been quite useful to me. I like to be complete, though, and spent some time yesterday trying to obtain an unholy mould. The spirit that's supposed to give them away... didn't. Monique finally realized, if you've got an Ivandis Flail, it considers that an unholy mould. So I took them with me, dropped them to the ground, got my mould, grabbed the flails, and was good to go!

Now I'm a happy camper with the cool tool belt all full.

Did you get the Google Chrome goggles?

Anonymous said...

I did get the goggles. Did you? I agree, the money bag does need an 'all' option.

Crewman6 said...

I did get the goggles. Then I destroyed them to save bank space. Diango will keep'em for me!
Still chopping ivy behind Varrock. Slow, but I don't mind. Doesn't take much attention, so I'm working on other stuff at the same time. (Like writing this!)

Anonymous said...

I'm training my ranged, strength, attack, defence, and constitution for Vanguard armour that I can use in Castle Wars.

Crewman6 said...

Wow, that's a lot of work for such a specific set of armour! My hat's off to you. I'm still chopping ivy, and when I feel like it, flipping at the GE. It's been slow, but my bank has recovered from nearly nothing, back up to about 31m. I think it would actually be faster to slay for the cash, but this lets me woodcut ivy and still make money.

Anonymous said...

I'm only about at 5m in cash! Buying the fury took it down a lot.
Vanguard amour is hybrid armour. There is also Battle-mage and Trickster. Once you receive hybrid armour you choose what type you want. The Vanguard is for ranged and melee, Battle-mage for magic and melee, and Trickster is for magic and ranged. You get the helm from castle wars. It needs to be in your bank for it to work because you can't wear helms or capes in Castle Wars. For Vanguard you need to have 85 ranged, strength, and defence to wield it.

Crewman6 said...

Can you change the type later on? I remember the release when hybrid armour came out, but since I don't play the in-game games very often, it sounded like way too much work!!
I didn't realize all the ins and outs of it. Lots of complications to using hybrid armour. How close are you to getting it? I'm very curious to know your impression of it once you've been using the armour.

Crewman6 said...

Aaugh! Man, I'm sorry. I just looked up and saw where you'd been there and talking to me. I've been playing with my Kindle Fire while chopping wood, I didn't even realize you were there til you logged out. My apologies! (This is Thursday night)

Anonymous said...

Oh, it's fine! I usually watch TV while chopping ivy. No worries.

Since the update with hybrid armour I've gotten about 10-20 wins in CW. (Cw meaning Castle Wars.) The wiki says you need about 60 wins. I'm still working on it. Game after game.

For hybrid armour, no you can't switch it, but you can receive another piece of it and get a different type.

Sorry it took me a little while to replie to you, TOO many things came up at once. "I hate my job!"

Crewman6 said...

Cool.
60 wins? Man, you've definitely got persistence! So once you've earned one set, you have to re-earn an entire new set of armour for the other styles? Lots of work.
I've gotten my woodcutting to 98, just a few minutes ago. One more level to go. Takes time, but seriously, this is a very easy skill to raise.

Anonymous said...

I don't get the set from CW. I only get the helm from it. I get the platebody from TzHaar fight pits. Legs from Soul Wars. And finally you get the gloves from fist of guthix... I think. Then you get the boots from Pest control. With all those you get the set, if you still don't understand how it works...ask away! :)

Crewman6 said...

That sounds even more difficult than I thought. It makes sense, Jagex is trying to build participation in their games. I can see the appeal in owning the sets.
Thanks!

Your very welcome!

I will! I think I will get it around Christmas, then have the levels for it by the end of January. It all depends on the luck I get in Castle Wars.

Crewman6 said...

That's awesome. Major dedicaton points there! I'm looking forward to your review.

Have you done Christmas content? Monique and I just finished it, and tonight's penguin hunt. Content was decent, but I especially liked the graphics and colors. They're getting better at expressing facial emotions with their graphics.

Anonymous said...

I haven't done it yet. I'm pretty sure I won't have the helm by Christmas because of Barbarian Assault. I wanted the Fighter Torso, it gives a plus 4 strength bonus. I didn't think it would occupy a lot of my time. Sadly I was completely wrong. So it took me about 4 days. >:(
Anyway, I have it now. I got my Fighter Torso. But no Vanguard helm. Oh well. Maybe I could get the helm by boxing day.

Crewman6 said...

I've underestimated stuff too. But when you stick to it anyway, and get everything you worked for, it's really amazing. So now you've got Fighter Torso, and can work to the next part of your goals!

Anonymous said...

Next goal? I'm pretty sure just I'm going to lay back and play Castle Wars. :)
By the way, Merry Christmas!

Crewman6 said...

Hahaha!! Laying back and just playing sounds fun. I'm done with woodcutting, now I'm mining. For a while, anyway.

And Merry Christmas! Hope you have a wonderful (and safe) holiday season.

Anonymous said...

I did, and I will!

Crewman6 said...

We had a great one too. Lots of family and friends involved, and a lot of fun. :^)

My Mac just died. :( After about 6 and a half years of age it passed away. On the upside I am talking to you from a new Acer Aspire with a LG LED monitor. :) It is way (way way) faster for Runescape then my Mac... but it stays in my office and can't leave. I love it! Although it did take about a week to get here leaving me computerless. (Yeah, I know computerless isn't a word. :P)

Crewman6 said...

That's such a major pain. My old computer was about that age when my last birthday resulted in my wife, son, and his wife, pooling their resources to buy me a really fast computer. You're right, going from old old old, to new, the speed difference is huge.
Glad you got a good replacement. And if computerless isn't a word, it ought to be!

Anonymous said...

Sure, why not! For today and on, 'computerless' is a word! :)

Crewman6 said...

Shame it's not portable, but you generally get more power for the money with a desktop model. My laptop (netbook, really) is only just barely up to doing some of the simpler Runescape tasks. Can't really do any serious play on it. But the desktop has power to burn.
Hope you're enjoying it a lot.

Happy New Years! Hope you have a great, fun, and enjoyable one!

Crewman6 said...

You too! Hope the new year is a great one for you. A new year, a fresh start, and the best of everything you could hope for!

Anonymous said...

Wisdom! Don't get it! It's not a very good bonus. Let me explain: If you get 100 xp, wisdom will only make that 102.5!

Crewman6 said...

Too late. Monique and I both bought it already. Still, I realized it would be only a small percentage going in. But if I use it 30 minutes a day, (and on nearly any skill) it will eventually make itself worth while. Currently, I'm mining gold in the Living Rock cavern. Wearing Varrock 4, gold lava mine armour, and using a lava titan. Stacks together well, and the aura boost me even more. I'll probably buy a dragon pickaxe just for getting the skill up, but I hate to spend the money when I'm trying so hard to build my bank back up.

What do you think about the new barrows update?

Crewman6 said...

I think it looks pretty cool, but not entirely sure if I like old Ahrims or new best. Still, I've made one run in the barrows again, hope to have time to play more this weekend.
But I do, extremely much, like the barrows ground-level environment. Now it really looks like a proper barrows, like something I'd imagine in Lord of the Rings. Overall, I like the update, but haven't yet seen ALL of the armour sets.

How about you?

Anonymous said...

I love it all... well almost all. I think they should bring back the mouth guard on Verac`s helm.

Crewman6 said...

It does look kind of empty this way. It reminds me of the Marvel Comics hero "Nova", with the yellow helmet. I think Spider-Man referred to him as "Bucket-head".

Anonymous said...

Man, you are completely right! I never thought of it like that. :)

Anonymous said...

I'm doing some fishing for now. I'm going to try to get it to 90, then get a 99 in Woodcutting. Finally after that, I'll fish some more and hope to get it to 99.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like a good plan. With your woodcutting, are you going for speed with Ivy, or money with yew or magics?

Anonymous said...

I'm going to do mostly ivy, but maybe I'll do a few magics.

Crewman6 said...

I prefer ivy too. For fishing, I like either shark or rocktail. Rocktail when I'm being serious, shark when I just want to kill time doing something easy.
Did some barrows, but really haven't been in the mood. Going to do the new quest, then get back to mining gold.

Anonymous said...

Awesome! My fishing is getting up there, but I want to get it to 76 so then I can go in the fishing guild and fish shark. I'd like to make a little money with this skill! :)

Anonymous said...

I'm only getting about 40k xp per hour in fishing. It's a slow skill to train.

Crewman6 said...

I had the same feeling. Even at higher levels, shark fishing isn't fast exp. But now the bots are gone, it's once again good money.
If you're going for speed, fish for Monkfish. It's supposed to be the fastest fishing exp in the game, with Rocktail coming in close.
I'm the same with my gold mining. It's slow, but I'm making money from it.

Did the new quest last night. The different room puzzles were mildly annoying, but nothing too bad. I actually enjoyed the finale fight. And going back to get the new pet was pretty cool.

Anonymous said...

Fishing is getting to be really annoying, so I'm playing a little bit of Castle Wars now.

Anonymous said...

Fishing is starting to kill me, so I'm playing a little bit of Castle Wars right now.

Crewman6 said...

I noticed fishing is beginning to wear on your nerves... :^)
I'm that way with mining. Boring. Going to do the Hati Wolf tomorrow night, hoping the rewards will help me boot my agility training. I'll do that for a change of pace. Did penguins tonight.
Been kind of busy recently, setting up some new websites. Hope to have more free time soon, but not sure yet. It's REALLY cutting into my Runescape time!

Anonymous said...

Hati was a really easy fight. I'm alching with the paws right now, Almost to 70 magic. Yay! :)

Crewman6 said...

That's cool. We're going to go after him later tonight, after our evening guests depart. I think I'll use the boot for agility.

Anonymous said...

I haven't got the boots yet. Tell me how hard skoll is to kill. (Don't forget: Pray, hit eat!)

Crewman6 said...

When we got there, there was already a crowd of people working on Skoll's fire. Once the fire was lit, we all piled him. The biggest risk is getting caught in his "flaming fence", when he teleports to a new (nearby) spot. If you're inside the zone, he hits you for lots of points. I survived 2 of those by just eating a lot. The 3rd I managed to escape before it solidified the fence. Outside of that, he was easy.
And Monique and I killed Hati by ourselves with no hassle. I'm using the boots now on the advanced Gnome agility course. Makes a huge difference!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, me too. I think Hati only hit a 30 on me before she/he was dead.
Thank's for the tips on skoll!

Crewman6 said...

You're welcome- I do really like the boots. Gloves do me no good, but the boots are making the agility go by much faster. I've still got like 97% on them, so I need to get focused.

Sam said...

I have about 70 left on my Hati gloves.

I've made a Google account. So it's still me. I'll just be posting with my Google Name.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds good.

No Runescape today. Friends just left, I've got about 12 minutes to update my blog before it posts. Maybe after that I can play some.

Sam said...

I hope you get some time to play.
If you want to check out my blog, you can search samorakrs.blogspot.com
I've just started making it. Tell me if you have any advice.

Crewman6 said...

I really liked your blog. You've got a great gift of writing like you're talking to a friend.
I like the length of your blogs, and I like that you include a picture. It's friendly and cheerful in tone. Overall, I think you have a good blog. One thing I've done to increase my readers, is signed up to Yousaytoo, and use them to share my blog. They do a good job of bringing readers.

Sam said...

I'm glad you like it.

Crewman6 said...

:^)

Sam said...

I've been training magic with the Hati paws, and I'm up to 75. I've got Ahrim's top and bottom. I also have the staff of light, all I need now is to do Desert Treasure.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds good. I remember Desert Trails. It deserves its reputation. Good luck!
Great with the training. I'm down to about 40% on my boots now. Doing agility.

Crewman6 said...

Sorry, meant to say Desert Treasure!

Sam said...

I've been putting thieving back for a while now. But with Desert Treasure, I need to get it up. Sigh...

Crewman6 said...

Constant story in Runescape. Just as you get good enough in one area, you realize something else has to get better. I had just barely gotten the Taskmaster emote when they released the completionist capes. I'll be years, training for that!
My favorite thief training is the Master Gardener north of Ardougne, though Pyramid Plunder's supposed to be effective, too.

Sam said...

Okay, when I'm a higher level in it I will probably train on the Gardener.

Crewman6 said...

I like master gardener, he's somewhat profitable.

I realized last night, my Taskmaster emote is gone. I have to complete all the new Burthorpe/Taverly content to get it back.

Have you seen the soon-to-be-released Jad? He looks amazing!

Sam said...

I'll check out how the new Jad will look.

Crewman6 said...

I think he looks pretty cool. Did all the newby tasks, and got my Taskmaster emote back. I hated the one where you have to build a room. It meant I had to destroy a room first, to make 'room' for another.

Sam said...

I'm trying to get Bandos armour right now. I've sold my Fury and a few other things. I have the Bandos tassets so far. I just need 3m more to get the chestplate. I hope I can get it this week! :)

Crewman6 said...

Bandos is pretty cool. Sorry you had to swap your Fury to get it! Still, it's probably easier to replace a Fury than Bandos. What will you use it for first?

Sam said...

Well, I've got it now. I've been using it to fight living rock creatures. (As a good melee trainer.) Also, I've been using it as tanking armour. I love the it! I'm also at a new all time low for bank GP. I have 1.2m in coins. :( That's why I'm trying to make some money!

Crewman6 said...

Congrats on getting it! Living Rocks are cool. Fair drops, and good exp. I use mine for most tanking situations too.
LOL--- that's about where my bank was right after buying Bandos!! Still trying to rebuild from that (I should do some money-making skills again, but I've been in the mood to train Agility, figure I'd better work on it while the mood is right.

Sam said...

Yeah, you don't often WANT to train agility, but sometimes you need to.

Crewman6 said...

You're totally right! My longterm goal is to get the completionists cape. Finished most of the 'fun' skills (except Dungeoneering) so now it's just the boring ones left. When I'm actually in the mood to work on one of them, I run with it as long as possible!

What's your next goal? Was it something you needed the Bandos for, or was that a goal for its own sake?

Sam said...

Yeah, getting bandos was for sure its own goal. Now, I`m just fishing some swordfish (and sadly tuna too) for some xp in fishing and cooking.

Crewman6 said...

You sound like I felt after reaching a major goal. Just relaxing. I actually like shark-fishing. Not fast money or exp, but you don't have to pay much attention. It's a great way toe play while vegging out!

Crewman6 said...

... I meant, "to play"

Sam said...

We all make mistakes. :)

Crewman6 said...

Ain't that the truth! I make so many, I get scorecards like the olympics!

... Did the new quest- Loved it! I'm looking forward to dying in the Fight Kiln a lot.

Sam said...

Lol.

No, I haven't done the new quest yet, but I really want to!

Crewman6 said...

It was a very fun quest. Mostly combat, and the one or two puzzles were simple. Hope you enjoy it!

Sam said...

Sounds like I will love it!

Crewman6 said...

I sure hope so- it was nice to have a combat-heavy quest again!

Sam said...

Yeah, I just need one more level in agility then I can do the quest.

Crewman6 said...

Hope you don't have much agility to go!

Sam said...

Lol, to get to that level it took longer to get to Ape Atoll then it did to level up. I love those Skoll boots!

Crewman6 said...

I couldn't agree more- Skoll boots were totally fabulous. I wish they'd lasted longer!!!

Sam said...

For me, the Hati paws were the best bonus. I was able to go from like 60 magic to 75 in a few days with almost no pain.

Crewman6 said...

That's a fabulous increase! I hope Runescape has another double exp weekend sometime soon. Monique and I were just wondering if they have any plans for it.

Sam said...

The bonus xp weekend starts around March 8th. (I think.)

Crewman6 said...

Thanks, I was wondering. Glad it's coming so soon, but I wish it wasn't on the weekend John Carter of Mars hits the theaters!

Sam said...

I saw your blog about the new baby jad. I totally agree with you! He looks a lot worse.

Crewman6 said...

It really made me sad... :^)
Okay, maybe disappointed. I worked hard for the coolest pet in the game, and now he doesn't look so cool.

Sam said...

Yeah...

Crewman6 said...

Saw your latest blog- nicely done. It was interesting to read, and I really like all the work you put into adding pictures.

Sam said...

Thank you. Good point on the Avies too!

Crewman6 said...

You're welcome. You're good at the 'how to' blogs- I like the quick-and-easy suggestions.

Sam said...

What do you think about the new Squeal of Fortune?

Crewman6 said...

I like it. Don't have to go anywhere, gear up for it, or spend anything. My first spins resulted in a Rune Battleaxe (sold for 24k) and a medium lamp, which gave me 11k exp.
The next day, I got 50 gold coins... twice. What the heck, there's always tomorrow!

Have you had anything cool from it yet?

Sam said...

The first time I got a rune platebody. (followed up with a small lamp for firemaking)Second time I got 10k, then 10k again. Now, I've been getting crap like tin ore. :( I had a good first few runs!

Crewman6 said...

Sounds familiar- last night's was 50 gold... and a bucket. Oh well, it's free and takes no effort!

Sam said...

Yeah... I've been crossing my fingers for one of the Lucky AGS's. But I got 10 gp.

Crewman6 said...

I'm glad that it's free, and twice a day. Makes if fun to keep trying.

Sam said...

Yeah, your right about that for sure.

Sam said...

I think the bonus xp time has changed. I'm not sure when it is.

Crewman6 said...

Yeah, it's the weekend of the 16th now. That's cool, Monique and I have already let it be known we're 'on retreat' that weekend!

I'm still getting garbage, Monique got 2 med exp lamps tonight, one for woodburning, and the other I think was just generic.

Sam said...

I'm getting junk too. Both times I got 50gp. :/

Crewman6 said...

Still junk for me. Monique got another lamp last night.

My connection's been better, I've gone back to Frost Dragons maybe 3 times so far. There's a lot to keep track of. They make good money, but after an hour down there, I'm ready for a break!

Sam said...

What weapon are you using to fight frost dragons?

Sam said...

Well, what do you think of the new armour update? I hate all of it. I think Jagex has destroyed all good looking armour. :'( I'd rather fight with no armour than with rune.

Crewman6 said...

Actually, I quite like most of the new armor graphics. The Dragonfire shield looks pretty great. The Bandos and Armadyll no longer looks like I'm wearing a dress!

Have you been to the top of the gnome stronghold tree?

As far as the Frost Dragons, I'm using a Vine Whip. Spent all my points in Dungeoneering on boosting the Ring of Kinship. Didn't know any better.

Some day I'll go back in and get a chaos weapon. But for now, the vine whip works.

Sam said...

You might be killing them better with a stab weapon, but as you said you don`t have a CLS or a CR.
