Runescape Cooking - Feel the Burn:How To Cook Rocktail Fish Without Burning: What You Do From Level 93 to 95
Been really hopping recently - Aside from playing with my new Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Netbook Tablet Computer (my caps- I really love this little netbook!) I've been catching up on all the work (and play) that's fallen behind. You may have noticed several new Runescape blogs in the last few days.
Today's blog is short and sweet, and relates to the hubpages I write (see sidebar.) With all the updates recently, there's been a lot going on in Runescape. And with so many BIG changes, there's been a minor change that didn't catch a lot of notice.
The shortcuts update, Hidey-Holes and Rope Racks. This small, unsung update is a lot more important than you'd suspect. Sure, the Rope Racks aren't such a big deal. After all, how many of us truly use the Eagle Transport System that much? But the Hidey-Holes are a very nice change. Out of all the Runescape agility shortcuts, the crossbow-and-grapple shortcuts have been, as a class, the most useless. I mean really, who just happens to carry a crossbow and grapple around by accident? If you've got them with you, you planned for it.
As a result, most of us ignore those shortcuts. Jagex finally did something about it... with a little work, those shortcuts will forever after be easy to access!
...Yes, I did say 'a little work'. Don't panic, it's not that hard. When I first looked into it, I realized there were the 'repeaters' all over the internet; you know, the sites that just cut and paste quotes from Jagex. And there were good informational sites that offered dictionary definitions of certain aspects. But nobody had bothered yet to tie it all together into one step by step guide.
I play a lot. Obviously, since I blog about it. But I've only done one guide previously. There's no sense writing a guide that's already been written about 50 times or more all over the internet. So my one and only guide up until now has been the 'cooking Rocktails' guide. I wrote it because it was a helpful technique, very useful between cooking levels of 93 to 95, and nobody had written one.
The Hidey-Hole and Rope Rack guide came about in the same way. I couldn't find one, and it seemed like a useful idea, so I wound up writing it myself. I hope you find it useful!
Welcome to Crewman6's Runescape Adventure Log! Monique (my wife!) and I have played Runescape together since 2004. We do the quests together, hunt penguins every Tuesday night, and help each other achieve our in-game goals. We play for fun, so our skill sets are a bit here-and-there. I thought it would be fun as we reach goals, and set new ones, to post tips, tricks, and thoughts as we go.

Meili's RS Blog - Runescape Free Trade
Thanks Meili, I appreciate it! I feel the same way about cheating- I enjoy Runescape far too much to want to cheat on it. Glad to see someone else feels the same way!
Oh, I should try that one. Thanks! Do you know how I get cooking gauntlets so I don't burn my monkfish as often? I kind of regret buying 3k monkfish because I used most of my money on the dragonfire shield, but it's fully charged and it was so worth it.
With the cooking gauntlets, you have to do the "Family Crest" quest. Your reward is "family gauntlets". Take them to Catherby, and find Caleb, just a little north of the bank. Pay him 25,000 gold, and he'll convert them to Cooking Gauntlets. I've used them a lot. Sometimes I convert them to goldsmithing gauntlets and make gold bars. But mostly, I cook with them.
Congrats on the dragonfire shield. It's a great shield, and worth every gold piece!
Thanks! I spent about four weeks saving up for it. I was fighting Green Dragons in the chaos tunnels, I went through that Saradomin statue close to Varrock so I wouldn't have to go through the wilderness. Do you have any other good money making tips for me? (Not Player Killing because I suck at that. Sorry.)
Have you done the Easter Event? I did it with a friend. I think he's level 94 combat now.
I use the same route. And the same feeling about PKing. I hated when it came back, to be honest.
Right now, I see a lot of people collecting Infernal Ashes for money. In one slayer task, I can collect nearly 1 million gold's worth of infernal ashes. I know Abyssal demons and Nechryaels drop them, and I'm sure other demons do as well. If you can do Abyssal demons, they're perfect... got the Fairy Ring right next to Varrock, teleport in, collect the ashes, and with any luck, even get a whip. Though whips are only worth 1/3 what they used to bring.
Still, that's a very nice way to grab some cash. I also flip commodities, like Pure Essence, and whatever seems to be working at the moment. I'm not ultra rich, but-- I'm not poor, either!
My wife and I did the Easter Event it's first night, Tuesday. I liked it a lot. Matter of fact, my next blog is about it, just have to sort out which pics to use with the text. Monique took the Winter Queen, and I took the Spring Queen. So she's on her computer, going "That's it? I got the crown, and it's over?"...
While I'm on mine, going "I'm talking to spirits of earth, air, and water", and "Wow, check it out, the underground river was hiding a tunnel!"
So after completing both parts, I didn't much care for the crowns, but really liked the emote.
Got to give Jagex credit. They keep it interesting!
I don't have the slayer level, I think it's 53. I loved the emote. I did it on Tuesday night too. Thanks for the money making ways! Do you have the same program that I use to get pics? Tell me when your Easter event blog is up. Just thought it would be cool to check out.
For the Abyssals, I think it's Slayer level 85. Level 80 for Nechryaels. But I don't think Black Demons have a minimum requirement. If you've got pray melee, they should be easy to kill. If you use the Taverly Dungeon and can finesse the safe spot, you should be able to cannon them for speed, but that would really ruin them as moneymakers.
Still, there's always Aviansies, or Runecrafting.
If you've got the inclination, flipping works pretty well. But with the new system, I've noticed it's best to stay right on top of your offers. Market changes too quickly to just let it ride like it used to do.
Easter blog is up, I finished it this morning. It's mostly pics, I try not to spoil it for players who haven't done the event yet.
For pics, I use Howie's Screen Capture. Easy, fast, and the only problem I've found is it limits you to 999 images in a numeric run. That really messed me up when I was writing the Jad guide!
I use the same program. I have 51 prayer so I can use protect from melee. I don't like using cannons because it makes it to easy. Are they in the wilderness? I've only killed blue dragons in the Taverly Dungeon before, so I don't know if they might have there own spot or something. Maybe some monkfish and prayer potions for the black demons, what do you think?
I like the cannons when I'm hurrying, but if I'm not in a rush, I enjoy combat, especially melee.
For Black Demons, they're far back in the Taverly Dungeon, past the blue dragons, or deep in the chaos tunnels, or in the Brimhaven Dungeon just before the dragon cavern.
I don't recommend the Edgeville dungeon because it actually extends into the wilderness slightly.
Wear prayer-boosting gear, bring a few food items for safety, and prayer potions. If you pray melee, they should be easy enough. Bring a beast of burden to score a bigger profit per trip. Teleport to Falador, bank, and run back out.
Awesome, that had everything I needed! Thanks! What do you think a should use Dharok's platebody or bandos chestplate?
If you were tanking, I'd say Dharok. But since you're praying melee, defense isn't an issue. Bandos has the advantage with the +4 Str bonus and +1 Prayer bonus. Or you could go proselyte armor with the guthix mitre for a helm. You'd lose some strength bonuses, but gain a lot more value for your prayer points.
If you've got multiple items for the same slot, and aren't sure which is best, go to the armor window that shows what you're wearing, and it's stats... then right-click on the item you're curious about, select "compare", and click on the other item to compare it to. (They both have to be in your inventory.)
You'll get a little window that shows the stats of each one, and highlights in white where one is better than the other.
Okay, so if I want to last long then I would go for Dharok's. I didn't know that the Bandos Chestplate gave a prayer bonus. I think I'm going for the chestplate. Thanks!
I leveled up in prayer, it's 52! Then I go to switch to block and I see...96 combat!
Arrgh- I almost finished answering, and a circuit blew. Turned our computers off. Here goes again:
Dharok's is better if you're not praying melee.
Bandos is better if you're praying.
Proselyte is even better if you're praying.
If you choose armor with your best prayer boost, you'll last longer, and kill more per trip, with less risk of being killed.
Black Demons hit hard, but have low defense. As long as you're praying melee, they're no threat to you.
Congrats on leveling prayer, and combat! It's cool enough just to level prayer, that's a hard skill to raise. But it's always that much better when you get a combat level too!
I find that prayer might be the hardest skill for me. I went to the green dragons in the chaos tunnels and then trained prayer there. The Dragonfire Shield is good, I love it! I'm not going to fight the Black demons today because I'm really busy right now. But I'll try to get out to fight them on Wed.
It was much the same for me. I spent a fortune buying dragon bones trying to raise prayer. Now Monique is trying to get hers to 95, and I'm giving her all the dragon bones and ashes I collect from slayer tasks.
Have you found anything that's effective to use the Dragonfire Shield's fireball on? I always kind of hate to use that, because then the shield loses some of its defense. Except on dragons, since you can recharge it right away, but that's kind of pointless, since it doesn't hurt dragons.
Good luck with the Black Demons!
I breathed fire with the shield in a game of Castle Wars and it didn't hit anything. So I went to go charge it up again. Do you have one? (dragonfire shield)
Yes, from a drop way back when they first came out. I couldn't afford to buy it, so spent 2 months camping at the iron and steel dragons. Finally got the visage, and had Oziach attach it for me. Monique, on the other hand... waltzed in to fight dragons one night, killed a couple, and bam, got a draconic visage! ... lucky.
In the years since, neither of us has ever had one as a drop again. You'd think we're due!
I saved up for about 4 weeks and then bought it. I went from 3m -17m! Then down to 34k. :( I bought Verac's Brassard for the black demons.
Do you think people can solo the nex? Woox killed her in a duo, but can people solo her?
Lol... Yeah, some things have a way of sucking all your gold away. I maxed construction a long time ago, and still can't afford to max out the house! (25 mil for the best throne?)
Verac's sounds like a good idea. Very nice prayer bonus.
Nex? Beyond my experience. There are so many things to do in Runescape, I haven't even seriously explored dungeoneering yet, which I really want to do. And the new spells from Livid Farm? Still want to get my agility up to 90, and my Slayer at least to 93 (almost there)!
Anyway, Nex is so far down my list, I haven't done any research at all. My vague impression is, not possible... but Runescape has some incredible players, and maybe some genius somewhere will work out a strategy that others can duplicate. Maybe you?
I know it won't be me... the only way I can beat Jad is to stand there and take his hits while the Ancient Curses kill him for me. I suck at real-time combat skills!
I'm good at strategies but don't have a high combat yet so I need to get that up. I wish in the champions guild there was a animated dragon warrior.
Then I could have a tough fight in there.
My strengths are in research, and methodical "over and over" until I get there. Makes me pretty good at skilling, but no good at true combat. (Of course, if all it takes is the right gear and settings, I'm fine with that!)
Dragon Warrior sounds fun. For the recent poll, I voted Elvarg.
Where is the poll?
It was a three-part poll. I think it's too late for parts one and two, but part three is still available under latest news on the Runescape homepage.
Awesome, thanks.
No problem!
This is what I might use to fight the black demons: Torag's helm, Verac's Brassard, Unholy symbol, Zamorak godsword, dragon boots, Black d'hide vambs and Dharok's platelegs. Do you think that looks good? Sorry if some things are not spelled right, I was in a hurry.
Ops, I forgot to add obs cape. (Obsidian)
One of my friends started boting and he lost his account, I told him that he would lose it but he didn't listen. It's nice that your blogs don't have any cheats or bots on them, I don't think boting is good. You don't get the feeling of accomplishment if you bot. Boting=lame Lol.
I see I have some catching up to do... darn work!
Anyway, most of that list is pretty good, except for Dharok's Platelegs and Torag's Helm, which have no prayer boosts. For the money, I'd buy a full set of Proselyte armor (should only cost around 25,000 gold altogether), and build the rest of the armor according to prayer benefit.
Verac's Brassard is a very good choice, though. Good prayer bonus. I like the Unholy symbol, and the Zamorak Godsword, all have great prayer bonuses.
But it's all good, really. You'll still be fine as long as you're praying melee protect. The better prayer bonus just means your prayer drains slower.
For the cape, good choices would be a trimmed skillcape, or any of the vestment cloaks. Or an Ardougne Cloak, if you've gone high enough with it to get decent prayer bonuses.
If you don't have access to all of that, don't worry about it, just wear the best prayer bonuses you can. Like I said, lower bonuses just mean you use more prayer potions.
Don't forget a beast of burden, and just zip back and forth as much as you can.
Man, you're really right about botting. It's bad news. I'm very proud of achieving all my Runescape accomplishments on my own, by my hard work. It really upsets me that bringing back the wilderness and free trade have unleashed all the botting again. Jagex promised they had all sorts of high-tech ways of catching them, but obviously, they just can't keep up with the botters. Mods have weekly anti-botting parties just to try and catch some, or mess them up. If Jagex really had it under control, that wouldn't be necessary.
Okay, long answer, but hopefully helpful. Good luck!
Awesome, I might get out to fight them on Tuesday.
I'm glad I got all my stuff and stats without botting too. It's just no fun with bots. Anyway, I don't have the helm of neitiznot but I might get it today.
Sounds cool. I'm just finishing up a slayer task of Black Demons, they're a snap if you gear up right.
Neitznot helm is good- useful, and looks really excellent!
I just got it about 10min ago. I like the str and prayer bonus so I should wear it for the black demons.
Definitely a useful helm. Love the prayer bonus.
I went to the Black demons, with the 24 prayer bonus it went very well. I'm going to bring a anti-dragonfrie shield because the blue dragons hit a 251 on me, not hard just by the time a got to the black demons I I was around 580lp. I don't want to risk my dragonfire shiled just in case.
Sounds like a good idea; If the blue dragons melee'd you, a quick prayer while running through would help. If the dragonfire got you, try taking a sip of anti-dragonfire potion as you're leaving the bank. The effect should last long enough to get you there.
Great idea, because then I could replace it with monkfish or prayer pots and still have the benefit.
There aren't many people there too, I think I only saw one or two people.
That sounds good, then. I usually use the Brimhaven dungeon, but I have access to the home portal teleport there, and the Karamja Gloves Red Dragon shortcut. One nice thing about the Taverly dungeon Black Demons is they're pretty isolated, so you shouldn't have to compete for them.
That's what I found too.
:^)
Do you think I can beat "Summer's End" at my combat level? (96) Or should I wait until my combat is 100+?
It's been a couple of years since Monique and I did it; I was 138 combat, and got killed once. Monique got killed about 3 times, and I think she was in the 120's.
I'd say, if you meet the basic requirements, it's possible to beat the quest, but you may have to be prepared to fail a number of times.
Best bet, choose a guide, like Wiki, or RuneHQ, and follow their advice.
Okay, so not yet if I want it to be easy.
Lol... Made me chuckle. That's a good way to put it. Remember, I'm high level, but not good at complex combat. If you have a knack for combat, you might breeze through far better than I did.
But still, I think you're right. Waiting a bit will make it easier for you.
I just saw I level 94 with the spirit shield so I thought I should look into "Summer's End." The last dungeoneering boss I fought was the Bulwark Beast, the thing is I didn't know witch prayer I needed to switch to so I played around with it... got to 97lp but still didn't get the hang of it. Then ate like heck!
I leveled up in const. str. def. and att. I'm at 97 combat! If I get all those skills to 80 will I be 100 combat?
Experimentation is the name of the tactic... I think you're on the right track.
Congrats on the 97, and skills. Construction is a non-combat skill, but the other three will help you level up your combat. As far as 80, I'm not sure. I seem to recall tip-it has a combat level calculator that might help you make a good guess. But if I remember right, even using a calculator only provides an educated guess.
When I said const, I thought it meant constitution.
:P Lol. So my Construction is not 77. :(
That's funny :^)
So, that being the case, your question makes more sense. I think you're probably right, but sometimes the combat level doesn't always go up on a completely 1/1/1/1 basis. Don't forget Prayer helps your combat level.
Here's a useful link to figure out combat levels:
http://www.runescape100.com/guides/runescape-combat-calculator.php
(But it seems more work than it's worth to me!)
I think summoning get's combat up too, right?
You're right, though sometimes it's treated differently than other combat skills.
I was fighting Green Dragons and I found Dragon platelags, Rune platebody and 76 Varrock tele tabs!
Other people got other things, but a got a good hall.
Somone died at Green Dragons? Man, sounds like they weren't paying attention. Good luck on your part!
I think they might be a bot. Yes, they did die. I was down to about 4 tele tabs so that was great. I'm in the mid 50's in summoning, I love the beast of burden in the Spirit Terror Bird.
Even better. I really wish Jagex could keep their promise about keeping bots out of the game. Still, you made a profit from one, so that's kind of cool.
I like summoning. Not only is it useful, but it's just a fun skill, and the pets are a nice reward for leveling up.
I wish Jagex could keep out bots too, but then again, I got some sweet stuff from it. You can "Take Down" a Pure essence mining bot. All you need are here.
1. Put a cannon by that guy in Varrock who teleports you to the Pure essence spot.
2. That will trap any bots. I tried it before the BIG cannon update, so if it dose not work...sorry. I don't have a cannon anymore so I can't try it. :(
That sounds like a fun tip to aggravate someone with. I'll have to give it a try and see if it still catches bots!
I got up to 200 Castle Wars games played! Do you like Castle Wars?
Aargh! You've found my weakness. I hate team sports. Except for my wife, I generally play as Solo as I can in Runescape. I like to skill, and am very methodical about it. When I'm in the groove, talking and playing team sports slows me down. So when I'm Runescaping, as odd as it sounds, my way of relaxing is to take a high-intensity approach and focus like a laser.
That's why I generally play in the 'no talking' worlds, and have all my settings as private as I can make them.
Some day, when I've finished all my other goals, I might seriously try to play some team sports. But for now, I'm sticking with skilling.
I will say 200 Castle Wars games sounds amazing to me. Isn't there some kind of decorative armor that you get for playing a lot? How much do you have to play, to get the armor?
You need a lot of Castle Wars tickets to buy some types of armour. (a lot meaning 200-1000 for anything good)If you win a game you get 2 tickets if you draw a game you get 1 ticket and if you lose you don't get any tickets. I think I have around 147 tickets, but that is because I bought Castle Wars Potions with them and also bought a shield but found out it was as good as Adamant. :( If you can use ice Barrage then this is the game for you. I have the "Castle Wars Most Captures" And the "Most Kills" I Kills cape was the hardest because They were all a higher level then me, I think maybe 3-5 were lower then me. I don't now how a got it that game!?!? Captures cape, easy... They had the worst Defence I EVER saw, I could get right past then get the flag.
I'm impressed. You really know what you're talking about there. I know next to nothing about it, but what you've accomplished sure sounds like a lot to me.
My head is like a wiki when it comes to Castle Wars, so ask away!
Cool - I'll bear that in mind when it's time to finally play some team sports!
What do you think the best item that you have is?
My most useful item, or the one I like the most? For most useful, I'd have to say my trusty Dragonfire Shield. It's included in almost every configuration I wear for Slayer tasks.
For favorite, I think it has to be my pet Baby Black Dragon. I've got several in my house menagerie, but I keep one in the bank, and take him on walks at least once a week.
Kind of boring, I guess, but there it is. I'm also pretty happy with my Ardougne Cape 4, and the Falador Shield 4, plus my Agile Top and Bottom, all because they represent a lot of time and effort.
What are your favorites?
Oh, nearly forgot... my Enhanced Elite Excalibur. Thanks to it, I rarely need actual food!
My favorites are: Dragonfire shield, Castle Wars Captures Cape, Ring of Recoil and my Zamorak Godsword.
Very cool. I've not bought a Godsword yet. Been saving my gold to finish my house. I think I'll need about 150 million gold to max out everything I'm putting in, and I'm nearly halfway there. Kind of pointless, since it's mainly for my personal pleasure, but I figure Runescape is a game, and you should play it the way that makes you happy.
150m! That's a LOT of money! At your Combat level you would be hitting around 400's with a godsword.
I've seen some 400's and 500's with Kurasi's Sword against some monsters. Rarely, if I'm running Turmoil from Ancient Curses, I'll even see some hits in the 600 range.
... but yeah, a Godsword would be cool to have. First, the house. Now that the capes are out, I suppose I'll go for 99's in all the skills. I love the completionist cape, but I think it's more reasonable to shoot for the Max cape.
What is your top hit? Mine is 353.
I'm not sure of the exact number, but I've noticed some 600's occasionally with Korasi's Sword, and Turmoil. That might have been with a super-set also. Depends on if I was trying to rush. And, to be honest, I don't remember if I was using the Sword's special, or just hitting. I'm doing a lot of Slayer work right now, and I notice more about what the drop was, and what my next assignment is.
When I was levelling up my Str, Att, and Def, I used Dharok's on the Gorillas at Ape Atoll. Kept the stats even, and got 99 on all three within minutes of each other. And kind of got 99 Con by accident. At the time, everybody thought it was cool how hard I was hitting with Dharok's, but that was years ago. Now, those hits seem kind of... weak... by standards of what today's better weapons can do. One of the dangers of a long-playing game. To keep it relevant, people keep wanting new weapons and armor that are better than whatever we've already got. If that happens too often, players will become too overpowered to enjoy the game. I guess that's why they keep coming out with harder and harder boss monsters.
...like the nex. I just bought a load of lobster that I will cook, by a load I mean 20k. I'm down to 1m. :( But then... cooking. :) Lol.
That's how I 99'd cooking. It was by accident, only because I kept cooking Rocktail. That's a great example of one skill helping another.
120k xp to go, not to bad. (Cooking)
Let me be the first to 'Woot' you in advance... Woot.
Seriously, leveling up is always good!
1 hour later, "Still cooking."
If you can, use Cooking Urns while you're cooking. It'll boost your exp speed by quite a lot.
I use them a lot.
Where should I look for penguins?
Once a week they're released in semi-random locations all over Runescape. World 60 is the unofficial penguin hunters world. There's a forum thread with the locations of the week, and a chat (world60pengs, I think...) that gives detailed information as people find them.
On a good day, Monique and I can finish in about 30 minutes. On a bad day, maybe an hour. On a bad day with several penguins in the wilderness all at once, maybe an hour and a half...
Anyway, check out the forums for full details. It's a lot of fun, and decent exp for just playing around.
Okay, great! I'm training construction right now. What level is it to put a dungeon in your house?
You can begin your dungeon at level 70. It's one of my favorite parts. I love dragons, so my house has lots of dragon items. 2 baby red dragons, a steel dragon, and a pit dragon... so far. Had to stop spending money at that point.
On the main floor, I've got a wall mount of the King Black Dragon (he's funny to talk with) and my menagerie is full of baby dragons. 2 blues, 1 red, 1 green, and maybe 6 or 7 baby black dragons. I keep one baby black dragon as my run-around pet.
You should see my real-life home... everybody keeps giving me dragon figurines for Christmas, I've got them all over!
How do you get a pet dragon?
It takes a long time to accomplish the requirements, but there's only 2, really. First, get 99 Summoning. Next, decide what color baby dragon you want- green, blue, red, black. Then kill that color dragon until you get a dragon egg. (It's a rare drop)
After that, it's just a matter of hatching it, and feeding it raw meat. It took a long time to get all my baby dragons for the menagerie (since you can only own one at a time, the menagerie is the only way to have multiples)
Here's a sample of my Dragon Egg Log:
Green Dragons 500 kills to my first egg
Blue Dragons 16 kills
Red Dragons 342 kills
Black 60 kills to get first egg
302 kills to get 2nd egg
After that, I quit counting. But it was a long time. :^)
I only have 57 summoning, three months later... But if a ever get 99 summoning I think I'm only going to kill the blue dragons. It would be kind of fun taking them on a walk. After I walk my real life dog I walk my RS dog. I once forgot I was walking him, and I took him into the black demons. :P
Yeah, Summoning is one of the most expensive skills to raise, especially if you go for Rock Crabs in the King Daggonoth Caverns.
I've done something similar. I took my pet Black Dragon into the wilderness, forgetting I still had him out. By the time I noticed him, I was way out and didn't think it would be worth the effort. But that was the day all the darn pk-ers got the clan updates, and they killed me while he was out. My only spare egg was blue, I still haven't gotten a replacement black dragon egg yet.
Since then, I've enjoyed going out with nothing but a poisoned Dragon Dagger and Ancient Curses: Wrath. When pk'ers kill me, I can often poison them, and explode a large area around me. It's funny seeing them run for the hills when they realize I'm about to explode :^)
Sometimes I go in to the wilderness and try to get killed but right before I die I put on Smite. :P
By The end some are really mad. (That's what they get for getting my Zamorak godsword!) :[ But that was when I was a little less then level 90 combat.
My level 95 friend just got there staff of light.
Man, they got your Godsword... that's gotta hurt. But yes, it's fun to lure pk'ers into killing you so they can be injured and not get anything from you. A little revenge.
I have my godsword again but that two weeks without it was hard, because I only had a rune kiteshield and a dragon longsword so that's why. I got knd of tormented by Pk'ers from it. As a said, that was when I was in the high or low 80's. What would you say I should train melee on? Right now it's werewolves, any other thoughts?
Cool that you got the godsword back. That would burn me up. Last night we did penguins, and while I was in wildy was hoping some pker would attack me so I could go 'boom' on them. Couldn't get any of them to do it, except for some guy so low I killed him before I realized he was attacking me.
For melee training, Werewolves are very good, especially because they occasionally drop something cool, and if you get them on Slayer task you can work two skills at once.
If you're 52 Slayer, you can kill Jellies, they're easy to kill, and have nice profitable drops.
My all-time favorite training for melee (att, def, str, and hit points) are Gorillas at Ape Atoll. Stay in the temple, pray melee, and anything else that seems useful, because you're fighting right next to an altar. They have lots of hit points, plenty to fight, and you can power-train all your melee skills. That bad news? First, Gorillas are one of the few monsters in Runescape that can block your movement, so be careful not to get cut off from the altar. Second, little annoying spiders that poison you, so bring anti-poison, or some way of dealing with them. If you're careful to stay in a zone, the spiders will eventually stop being aggressive.
Finally, they're not a 'profitable' monster. But man, when I was using Dharok's to level up, I blasted through the levels!
Here's a guide. See what you think:
http://forums.zybez.net/topic/894325-training-at-the-monkey-madness-gorillas/
Arrgh- I already approved your last two comments and wrote mine... then Blogger had a rollback. I'm not going to retype the lost comments, but I did see your answer about sticking with werewolves.
Yes I did see that.I had the same problim with blogger, here I am checking to see if you got my message and I see the "Blogger is Unavailable" thing. I got dharok's full set. Man, That thing rocks! I got down to 211hp nad hit a 366! (My new top hit!) Then I got down to 67hp. Ops! Glad I brought that monkfish. I need to do some more skilling with dharok's then I think I might get into the 400's. Do you think so? I'm also up to 98 combat. That was a nice load of summoning. :)
Dharok's rocks indeed. It's fabulous with for combat training at Ape Atoll. I'll bet you can get into the 400s. Do you Super Set? Even if you leave out the Defense Pot because you're praying, Super Str and Att will really shoot you up there. Sounds like you've been hard at it!
Monique and I have been learning how to Dungeoneer. I like it, but it has almost no bearing on regular Runescape. I don't feel like I'm making progress in my main goals when I'm Dungeoneering. But it's fun.
My dungeoneering is only 30. When I found my top hit I wasn't on super pots, or anything to get my top hit higher. I've found that in dungeoneering I can't kill the bosses without dieing at least once. But in a year or so If a get at it I might find myself wearing a chaotic longsword or rapier. What one should I get if I ever have that kind of tokens?
Chaotic longsword or Chaotic rapier?
Mine's only 65. I've heard the Rapier is the best, but haven't really researched it yet. You can bet I will when I've got the tokens to spend!
Same here, but I think I will buy the longsword.
I think I want... All of them!! I might die of old age first, though.
Here lies Crewman6,
died of dungeonerring
LOL... The monsters didn't get him, the years did.
Oh, sorry were you that forgotten mage that I killed?
I'm not sure... I've forgotten.
Lol! Is the amulet of fury dropping?
Check the tracking on Runescape's GE data. It's plummeting like crazy - in 3 months, the Fury went from 17 mil to 12 mil. Which is still crazy, when I bought mine it was only (only!) 4 million!
Only 4m! Should I wait then?
Depends on how much you mind spending versus how long you mind waiting :^)
Personally, I'd wait until I wanted to use it, then buy it at it's current price. Unless it's gone back up...
I might wait about two weeks or so.
That seems reasonable. You can track if it's going up or down, and make a decision then.
So, here I am in the in the godwars dungeon. I ask myself why are things hiting so high? then I notice i took the wrong platelegs! Instead of Verac's plateskirt I have Yak hide legs. At that point i'm a 9hp! I love my amulet of glory (4 now 3). That was close!
That's a major pain. I'd have to say you shaved that one awfully close. Glad you made a clean escape! (Yak legs... gotta laugh.)
That also explains when players walked past me all they said was lol.
I believe I would have lol'd you too. Still, many people down there are pretty nice. I got killed once, while wearing my Armadyl Gear for fighting Avies (and a Fury). At the time, it was about 50 million gold worth of stuff. One guy pm'd me and prayed at my deathstone, to make sure I could come back and get it all back. That was super-cool.
That's nice. Would you have pointed it out to me though? This is what they said, (WARNING you must be able to laugh)"Lol." "What?" I say. "Um... nothing."
That's harsh, man. Yeah, if I knew what you were doing wrong, I'd have to say so. If I figured it out. I don't always pay attention to externals, but if I saw you die, I'd pray your gravestone!
My gravestone lasts for about 8min. How long dose yours last? When(if) you have your maxed out house can you take a few screen shots so I can see?
I've got the Royal Dwarven one- it's good for 15 minutes. And yes, when/if I ever finish my house, I'll at least post pictures, and maybe even figure out how to take video by then. So far, my luck with video has been minimal. My comnputer's 6 or 7 years old, and not as powerful as most today.
That's great! My computer's about 2 and a half years old. You would have time to do a quest and still be able to get all your stuff back from the gravestone.
It's held up well. I custom built it with parts ordered from Tiger Direct. It has the AMD 38000+, one of the earlier 64-bit CPU's. So while the computer is showing it's age, it's still passable. The main difference from then, is I spent $1300 putting it together, and it could run rings around my wife's computer. Now, she had to buy a new one earlier this year, and for $400 off the shelf, hers is obviously superior to mine. Oh well... wait till my next one... :^)
Still dungeoneering a lot. I really like it, but exp is super slow. I don't have the hang of 'rushing' the dungeons. I kind of get what I'm supposed to do, but keep stopping to fight, alch something cool, mine some rocks, solve a puzzle. I'm easily distracted.
I can't really do more then five floors a day. If I did I might look like this :#
It depends on my settings. If I do complexity one, I can get through one in about 7 minutes. Complexity 6, small takes me about 30-40 minutes. And C6, Medium, takes an hour and a half. I just made it to level 70 a minute ago. Time for a break.
Wow, level 70! Great job!
Thanks! :^)
I decided to give up worrying about leveling. Dungeoneering just isn't very rewarding in terms of raising skill levels. On the other hand, just playing it is pretty fun. I I take my time, stroll around, enjoy the sights, and get into the occasional fight. Kind of like a sailor on leave. It's a lot more fun now that I'm not stressing over exp.
That's what I find with any skill, a don't do to much, I listen to some music at the same time. But if I need to get it done then I try to power though the night... I failed at this a lot, though I might not be doing them.
Most skills, if I'm shooting for 99, I try to power through. Unless money slows me down. This one just isn't worth it. But it's fun for it's own sake.
Man, Karil's top went up in price a fair bit!
Plus 99 in dungeoneering would not get you a skillcape, you need 120.
It'll probably go back down; might take a while, though. For Dungeoneering cape, you're partially right... there's a 99 cape, but the 120 cape is much cooler- it trails smoke!
I didn't know there was a 99 cape for dungeoneering.
It's not nearly as cool as the 120 cape. Comparing the two, I don't want to stop at 99, I want the better cape!
I also want the max skills cape, and the completionist cape... Runescape sure knew what they were doing. Obsessives like my now have to level EVERYTHING to get the capes.
I sold my godsword because I wasn't using it for a while.
That makes sense. I've temporarily sidestepped my dungeoneering- working on leveling mining and smithing so I can make my own promethium gear. It'll be a lot of work, but they're both easy skills to train.
So, what are you getting in place of the godsword? Working towards anything specific?
I got my new berserker ring and Karil's top. Sorry it took me a while to respond, I was in Germany. :)
The worst thing was... I forgot my laptop! :( Over all it was fun.
Forgot to put this in my last comment: Up to 99 combat.
Germany? Sounds cool. I was stationed there in the late '80s. No laptop... how barbaric. Well, I'm glad you enjoyed the trip.
99 combat- now that's a milestone! Congratulations, that takes a lot of work and time.
Dang, no skill cape! :P
With all the capes Runescape's been handing out, you'd think they'd have one for that!!
Moniqe and I are still in the Lava mine. I got my mining armor in about 12 hours of play, but she's still missing 2 pieces. Once she gets them, we'll probably spend some time getting concentrated gold ore from the living rock cavern. (Change of pace)
Wow, I just did I dungeoneering level and got 159 tokens... it took me 3 hours to do! Got another 100k xp in Attack so I can go collect Guthix's tears. Dose it level you up even if you hame 1m xp to go? Or dose it give you a good amount that might level you up?
Great leveling up! Guthix tears just raises your lowest skill. I find I usually gain about 8 - 10k or so on it. So, it's possible it might level you up, or just get a little more exp.
Penguins are faster. The higher the skill you choose, the more exp you get. I'm currently getting around 28k for 30 minutes or so of penguins. Choose a hard, or expensive skill to spend it on, and do again next week.
I never got farming and still don't so that's why I put them in that or ranged.
That's a good choice- I hate farming! But I got my 99 range doing Avies. Decent money, fun, and works up a good skill.
Monique and I both have the mining armor now, we're going to spend some time in the Living Rock caverns next.
I'm not I big miner... I'm a big woodcutter!
Not my favorite thing to do, but at least it's easy and cheap. Need 90 mining, then 99 smithing. Using Gold Ore with goldsmithing gloves to get there.
(I might take some breaks in between, it's been days already of nothing but hitting a rock or doing lava flow.)
On the other hand, woodcutting's not my bag, either! Are you 99 at it, or going for your 99?
I think I'm at 90 or 87. Where is Troll invasion? I looked EVERYWHERE but still couldn't find it! I'm taking a break from woodcutting and I'm doing ranged training. Maybe in a week or two I might get back to woodcutting.
Troll Invasion hasn't happened yet. Coming soon. I understand about needing a break. I'm up to level 85 mining, and really not thrilled about the next 5 levels. Oh well, it won't happen on it's own, so I'd better get to work!
Enjoy your ranging. You going for speed, or trying to make money at the same time?
I'm going for speed, but if I can make money then I'm good, but I'm fine not. Ops... I thought it was out. Darn, two hours of my time looking for nothing!
Speed's cool. I cannoned when I could afford it, and crossbowed Avies when I needed money.
Lol... well, at least you'll have something to look forward to when it comes out!
Yeah. Should I work toward 80 ranged?
Do you want 80 for anything special, or just as a good stopping point? I guess it all depends on your goals. Unless you just enjoy ranging.
I'm not going to push to 80 but if I get there then great. Should I get any Statius armour?
Sounds like a fun way to manage it. As far as Statius, I don't like the idea of spending so much for something that disappears permanently after an hour.
That's what I thought but I wanted to check with you. Maybe someday if I have billions, but for now just 7.2m.
Yeah, if I could treat tens of millions like pocket change, I might go for it. Until then, money's just too slow to come by to throw away like that.
I couldn't agree more.
What level(combat) should I go for the fire cape?
I'm not the best example- I waited till I had all my combat stats maxed before trying, and still failed until I found the 'no-fighting' way to beat Jad. Since then, I've beat him 3 times, just standing there. You need to have Ancient Curses, and be able to use Deflect Magic and Deflect Ranged.
If you're better at fighting than I am (and that's easy- I stink at anything harder than pray-hit-eat) then I've seen people in their mid-70 combat levels wearing fire capes.
I also heard about somebody beating Jad with a spoon from the culinoromancer's chest. Some people are just good.
So to sum up, if you have a knack for combat, you should already be good enough. If you're as bad as me, then do it my way. Just stand there and deflect him to death.
(There's a guide for that method on the top right side of this page)
I'm not the best person but I'm better then pray eat hit. Lol! That needs to be the Runescape motto, "Pray, hit eat!" I might try him at level 105 or something like that.
I'm just not that coordinated. I do well because I'm high-level, and can be stubbornly persistent. It took a couple of months of solid effort to beat Jad... until I found the technique that worked for me!
Glad you liked "Pray Hit Eat"... maybe I'll make it a logo or something!
You should make it the tittle for your next blog. What level in prayer do you think I should get the Ancient Curses?
Funny you should say that... maybe not the next blog, but definitely an upcoming one.
In the meantime, you need a minimum of 68 prayer to deflect both missiles and magic. But the more you have, the better, just so your prayer lasts longer.
If you have at least 68 prayer, and can do Ancient Curses, then you should be fine for killing Jad.
What armour should I wear for Jad?
You could do it with as little as black dragon hide, but I prefer my base armor to be Armadyl. Prayer-boosting, with an emphasis on ranged, which is how I get through the waves.
Check out the Fight Cave guide for a thorough description of everything you'll need. (Link near top of this page, on right side).
Would Karil's work too? If I die in any of the waves do I lose anything?
Karil's would be very good for the ranged bonus and magic defense. But I'd junk Karil's crossbow and use a Rune Crossbow. Ammo is cheaper, and more powerful. I used Broad-tipped Bolts.
Fight Caves is risk-free. You don't keep supplies that you've actually eaten, drank, or used. If you eat your food, then die, that food is still gone. But if it's still in your possession at time of death, you don't lose it.
Which is good, considering how many times Jad killed me!
I guess I should have put this in, I just meant the top and bottom of karil's. I'm glad I won't loose my karil's or bolts and other pricey or hard to get items. Isn't there the option on spell check to recognize runescape words? Lol...
Then yes, that's a good choice. I'm glad Fight Cave is considered 'Safe'. It's hard enough as it is, it would be awful if you lost everything as well.
Heh- our computers should spellcheck Runespeak!
I'll check wiki to look at all the monsters so I know what to bring.
Sounds like you're getting ready to try for it. Let me know how it goes!
I'll let you know!
I got to the 31st wave, then got pwned! I thought he would be using melee. No fire cape yet, but I'll keep trying. I need to bring 100000000 more prayer potions! :P
Got one more wave done! He hit a 408 on me!
Sounds like you've had an exciting day. Persistence will eventually get you there, and I think you're doing well. That 31st wave marks the beginning of the Ket-Zek, who attacks rapidly, constantly, with magic. Once you get to that point, you'll have to either constantly pray magic, or make sure you're hiding out of his range before turning prayer or curses off.
I'm impressed. Once you start something, you sink your teeth into it!
I find the Ket-Zek guys really hard at my level. I'll try different strategies.
To be honest, they ARE hard. They melee too, so if you drift in too close, one swipe of the claws can really hurt you.
The only way I know to deal with them is to keep nearly constant prayer on once they start showing up. It's why I try to wear gear that emphasizes prayer first, and ranging second. Nomad's cape is a big help. Having a Falador Shield 3 or 4 is a massive aid for the once or twice a day full prayer recharge.
Without things like that, it's much harder. I probably couldn't handle it. But I've seen enough lower-combat levels wearing a fire cape to know it's possible.
Search some different guides. There are some good ones on the forums, and Wiki lays it out pretty good, too.
Should I bring a ring of recoil or Berserker ring?
I prefer the Berserker Ring for getting through the general waves, but never really thought about a Ring of Recoil. It might be cool to use it as a 2nd ring for when you're facing Jad. But if I remember right, it only works if you would have taken a hit. So, like Vengeance, it's only of any use if you make a mistake.
Still, might be a cool thing to try.
Should I bring Sara brew or stay with rocktail?
Urggg! Can't beat the 32nd wave. I need I higher constitution level. Or... (I'l tell you in my next post.)
Sara Brew- That and Super Restore is a more powerful mixture, but I mainly needed prayer pots and a few Rocktails. If you're not getting there on prayer pots, you might try Sara's. But they're way more expensive.
As far as 32nd wave- is it the Ket-Zeks? They should be easy if you range them with protect from magic.
If it's not the Ket-Zeks, the other monsters can usually be safe-spotted with a little work. Except the level 90 ranger, Tok-Xil. He's a major pain.
I need Yak hide legs!
... aside from making me chuckle, why? Are you going after Ice Trolls?
I keep forgetting to drop them is all.
Fair enough. Just did the new mini-game Troll Invasion. It came out yesterday. I tried combat, Monique did the skills. Hers went faster, but she only got about 20k exp. For mine, I got about 42k. It was a lot of fun, and leveled me up on Dungeoneering.
Now it's back to smelting gold. I had 125,000. Have smelted 32,000 so far. Went from Smithing level 90 to 93, and will level again tonight. But... boring!!!!
I was just about to do troll invasion. 42k xp!!!!!
Yeah, that's insane for just a few minutes of play. To see what I wore, check out my newest blog (click on the title graphic at the top of this page) I dressed for melee, took a titan, and a ranged, melee, and spec attack weapon.
It was a lot of fun. Seems like the 7-wave version might be cool too. Thought it might be worth trying before the month is up so if I mess up the points won't count.
I got 18,550 xp. I put it in ranged. The wizard troll pwned me! I only had a melee outfit... Really fun though! I'll check out the blog!
18 and a half K is cool. Was it enough to level your ranging up? It's pretty rare these days, but I love when 'extra' exp rolls a level up.
The wizard was pretty cool. I thought it was nice effect when he spelled you to him. All of a sudden I'd be sliding sideways, fast!
Glad you enjoyed it the game. I did too.
I was at about 15k xp until the next level in ranged so yes, it did level me up.
That's always very cool! Especially in Ranging - I like the combat skills.
I just got 96 in Smithing... only 60,139 Gold Ore till I'm done.
Is dragon really your best melee armour?
You caught me... Dragon platebody is my favorite melee torso gear. I guess my best would be some of the Barrows gear. I've got nothing better, though. What's good (yet affordable) these days?
We'll have an aura slot in about 1 minute!
Whoa, really? I haven't checked Runescape yet today, just got back from work, going to see Green Lantern, will have to look later.
Hope it's awesome!

I'm still smithing gold. Have 39,000 left out of 125,000, and it's been 3 weeks. (That includes several days spent mining from 82 to 90 as well)
I told Monique if I ever think I'm just going to sit down and bop out 15 levels for an easy 99 again, to just hit me, because I'm obviously an idiot and tend to bite off more than I can chew.
I think I got the the hang of it. Tell me if you can. I like that: I take a bite of more then I can chew. That's how it was for me in cooking, 20k raw lobsters that I needed to cook. I was player for about 2-6 hours a day cooking for a while.
20k lobs to cook? That's exactly like it. I can smith between 1000 to 1400 ore per hour (depending on my focus and whether it's using the Edgville furnace, or super-heat). Right now, I'm trying to get between 5,000 to 10,000 ore per day. With lots of luck, I'll finish this weekend. But that's a lot of hours, and I've been sneaking a lot of it in late at night when I should be sleeping.
Problem is when I get something set in my head. If I had been smithing just for leisure entertainment, there'd be no pressure to finish. But since I want it just to make Dungeoneering more fun, I thought I could knock it out in a week or two. Dumb.
Sorry, we don't have an aura slot. It updates every Tuesday, I thought. This is a good set op for me when I use melee: Dharok's platebody and platelegs, Helm of neititiznot, berserker ring, abyssal whip, dragonfire shield, dragon boots, combat bracelet or barrows gloves, for you fire cape and amulet of glory or fury. That is about 6.5m if we take out the dragonfire shield. For what you get, it's pretty good.
