Runescape Shortcuts - Hidey Holes and Rope Racks - A "How To" Guide

You can read the blog about the guide... or just click on the link here for the actual guide:
Runescape Agility Shortcuts: How to Build Hidey Holes and Rope Racks Guide
And of course:
Runescape Cooking - Feel the Burn:How To Cook Rocktail Fish Without Burning: What You Do From Level 93 to 95

Been really hopping recently - Aside from playing with my new Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Netbook Tablet Computer (my caps- I really love this little netbook!) I've been catching up on all the work (and play) that's fallen behind.  You may have noticed several new Runescape blogs in the last few days.
Today's blog is short and sweet, and relates to the hubpages I write (see sidebar.)  With all the updates recently, there's been a lot going on in Runescape.  And with so many BIG changes, there's been a minor change that didn't catch a lot of notice.
The shortcuts update, Hidey-Holes and Rope Racks.  This small, unsung update is a lot more important than you'd suspect.  Sure, the Rope Racks aren't such a big deal.  After all, how many of us truly use the Eagle Transport System that much?  But the Hidey-Holes are a very nice change.  Out of all the Runescape agility shortcuts, the crossbow-and-grapple shortcuts have been, as a class, the most useless.  I mean really, who just happens to carry a crossbow and grapple around by accident?  If you've got them with you, you planned for it.
As a result, most of us ignore those shortcuts.  Jagex finally did something about it... with a little work, those shortcuts will forever after be easy to access!
...Yes, I did say 'a little work'.  Don't panic, it's not that hard.  When I first looked into it, I realized there were the 'repeaters' all over the internet; you know, the sites that just cut and paste quotes from Jagex.  And there were good informational sites that offered dictionary definitions of certain aspects.   But nobody had bothered yet to tie it all together into one step by step guide.
I play a lot.  Obviously, since I blog about it.  But I've only done one guide previously.  There's no sense writing a guide that's already been written about 50 times or more all over the internet.  So my one and only guide up until now has been the 'cooking Rocktails' guide.  I wrote it because it was a helpful technique, very useful between cooking levels of 93 to 95, and nobody had written one.
The Hidey-Hole and Rope Rack guide came about in the same way.  I couldn't find one, and it seemed like a useful idea, so I wound up writing it myself.  I hope you find it useful!

It is a grind.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like you're really hanging in there. Are you checking out any of the new content, or staying focused on the Berserker? The God Emissaries seems kind of fun.

Sam said...

Obby Mauling has gotten too boring. I'm thinking about moving onto an
Initiate Pure.

Crewman6 said...

I never got all the different 'pures' that are out there. But then, I don't pvp. Guess it would make more sense if I was doing it.

What makes it more interesting than Obby Mauling? Or is it just the change of pace?

Monique and I finished the God Emissaries tasks. It was light entertainment, and we treated it like a date. Had fun.

Sam said...

Nice! I just uploaded a new video asking my viewers what pure I should be. My main thought right now is that finding fights as an obby mauler takes forever if you are not willing to risk 3x your opponent.

Crewman6 said...

That's a good reason to change. I checked the video, and 'liked' to get your rating higher.
But I refrained from voting, since we both know I don't have a clue about the different kinds of pvp!

Hope you have fun with the results.

Sam said...

Me too. I'm going on a camping trip so I might no talk to you for all of next week. So cya! (and ill be back soon..ish)

Crewman6 said...

Have a fun trip! Hopefully by the time you get back you'll have lots of votes.

See you later!

Sam said...

I am back with more mosquito bites than ever! :/

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like the mosquitoes had a lot of fun! How about you- was it a good trip?

Sam said...

Yeah. It was fun!

Crewman6 said...

Now back to the grind. What kind of pure are you going for?

Sam said...

Initiate. I'm taking it slow atm and taking lots of breaks.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like a smart way to approach it.
Nothing new for me- still just plodding away on Dungeoneering.

Sam said...

Just uploaded a new vid. :)

Crewman6 said...

I liked it! Great job editing multiple quests together, and I liked the music a lot too.

At some point, if you're looking for a video subject, I wouldn't mind seeing something like "Anatomy of a Pure", where you explained what you needed to get, and what steps you took to get there.

Sam said...

That`s a great idea. I might do that after I release my 3rd Pk vid.

Crewman6 said...

:^)

I'm looking forward to it!

Sam said...

Should I do monkey madness and then get the clips for pk vid 3? Or should I go in with a Dragon Longsword?(monkey madness gets u drangon scimy

Crewman6 said...

It's probably just a personal preference, but I remember Monkey Madness being quite difficult back at the time. It would be neat to see clips of you earning your Dragon Scimitar!

Sam said...

Ok... I will do Monkey Madness.

Crewman6 said...

Cool- Can't wait to see the video!

Sam said...

What have you been up to on rs lately? By the way have you heard that divination is coming out?

Crewman6 said...

Hi Sam, I'm so sorry- I wondered why I hadn't heard from you in a while, and just realized my last response to you didn't post. I never noticed until now.

To answer your question (again) I've mainly been training dungeoneering and doing POP. I've heard of Divination, hope it's a fun skill.
And lastly, I'm very excited about the New Interface System. Been trying it out in Beta, and really like it. Can't wait for the official release!

Again, I'm sorry to leave you hanging so long- I really thought I'd answered you.

Sam said...

It is A-O-K! :) Im also excited for divination.

Crewman6 said...

Wonder what the 2nd skill is? When they first announced 2 skills this year, I thought they were supposed to go hand-in-hand. Now I guess it's going to be one, then the other later.
Getter worried about the RS3 launch. Logged into the NIS beta last night to show Monique how to set it up, and they've changed it. My previous save is gone. No big deal, but they've also disabled teleports.
Also, the character graphics now look chunky, like we're some kind of cave man.
This close to release, it makes me wonder how ready they are.

Sam said...

Jagex sort of has a history of launching updates too quickly.

Crewman6 said...

Boy, that's an understatement. They haven't been truly stable since EOC came out. PVM changes from day to day, makes it hard to find (or write) a valid guide.

I'm hoping for the best with NIS. The Beta has been fun to try out.

Sam said...

My first impressions for rs3 is that I really like it. What are your thoughts?

Sam said...

2nd impression... billions of bugs!

Crewman6 said...

Some bugs, but I've been lucky. Not so bad as some. Let's see, we've had the black screen, the audio glitches, a bit of fps lag, and some really minor stuff. No game-breakers though.

On the positive side, I think it's brilliant. Really enjoy customizing everything. Still tweaking it. It'll take some getting used to, but I really like it.

Sam said...

Totally. I've also had a glitch where i hit the thing that makes the ability go but it won't work. So I had to click my abilities through a whole game of cw. :( at about 5 minutes till end i just put on momentum lol...

Crewman6 said...

I'd forgotten the one about the ability bar. If you load one of the other screen designs, then reload yours it comes back. Of course, that would have been tough to do during a game of Castle Wars.
Made me laugh, when you said you finally put it on Momentum!
:^)

Sam said...

Yeah it one of the worse cw games I've played. Oh btw tysm for the solution for the ability bar!

Crewman6 said...

You're welcome!
I had a similarly disastrous sinkhole last night. As soon as it let me in, a random abilities window popped up in the middle of the screen. It really messed things up until I could get rid of it, the 'x' to close wasn't showing.

Still, I'm getting happier and happier with the NIS. Really enjoy tinkering with the screen layout.

Sam said...

Yeah I love the customization as well. Sorry for the late response i had to replace a part in my computer. Never knew putting in a cord for a phone into it, and then the phone into the cord would fry my computer. Lol. My computer just had a crazy seizure just because I wanted to charge my phone. But it is all good now! :)

Crewman6 said...

No problem. I'm glad you got your computer fixed; I always thought you could plug phone lines into the back too.

Divination coming this month- can't wait!

Sam said...

Totally forgot about it! Sweet!

Crewman6 said...

Saw the teaser video for Divination today. Not definitive, but I'm hoping it'll be a great skill.

Crewman6 said...

While waiting on Divination, I've been playing with Battle of Lumbridge. It's actually a lot more fun than I expected. Going to try and get all the armour, and the weapon overrides.

Sam said...

Wow, nice!

Crewman6 said...

Fun too... but takes forever to get the sacred metal fragments.

Sam said...

yeah...

Sam said...

What side are you? I'm Zammy :P

Crewman6 said...

Sara... for the moment. I just got my first weapon override today. Went for the Icyenic Bow. Looks cool. I've noticed as the token upgrades, it gets easier to get fragments. Not fast, just easier.

Sam said...

Cool.

Crewman6 said...

New quest today- probably won't get to do it until Thursday or Friday, but it looks fun!

Sam said...

Oh I didn't notice lol!

Sam said...

Sorry about the slow posts lately. I've been looking into a very picky yet so fascinating plant. I now own a Venus Flytrap and I've been looking up on them lots. It's actually consuming allot of my time lol!

Crewman6 said...

Lol- still haven't done it, but looking forward to when we do.

That's okay- Venus Flytrap's a pretty cool plant. I tried raising one a long time ago, but it didn't survive very long. Good luck with yours!

Sam said...

Ya they are most demanding plant I've had yet.. So far though he seems to be doing well!

Crewman6 said...

Glad you've got a green thumb! I do better with plastic plants.
Maybe someday you can do a time-lapse video of your flytrap catching a bug!

Sam said...

lol. Oh btw I've been looking for boxes of live flys. My thought is that if I can get a box of live flys I can put my plant in the box. Flys can't fly forever!

Crewman6 said...

If you manage to do that, you MUST make a video. Creepy and funny all at once!

Sam said...

Divination is out! I Haven't tried it yet but I wanted to see what u thought.

Crewman6 said...

I'm glad it finally came out. Overall, I like it. Can get boring after a while, it kind of reminds me of gold mining at the living rock cavern.
But prettier.

Sam said...

I'm not really impressed with div. They could have made it so much more fun but instead they just made it a repetitive skill like all the others. :L

Crewman6 said...

I don't mind the repetition. Divination is boring, yes, but it's easy to train, and non-competitive. I'm willing to suspend final judgement until the other skill is released. Maybe together they might be spectacular.

Or maybe not. I sure miss my Max cape, though.

Sam said...

Yeah good point.

Crewman6 said...

Not getting as much play-time as I'd like. But just made level 36. Making progress.

Sam said...

My lvl 14 just owns your lvl. :P Jk!

Crewman6 said...

Hahaha!!! :^D

You just cheered me up!

Sam said...

:) I did a bet with a friend yesterday for who could get to level 30 first. I lost 500k. :(

Crewman6 said...

I bet your friend was happy! Did you offer to double-up?

Sam said...

Yeah he was pleased with the money. I didn't really feel like double or nothan because div was getting really boring that day lol. :P

Crewman6 said...

:^D I could understand that... not exactly high adventure.
Are you going to do the Super September challenges?

Sam said...

I think if when I check my daily challenges and I see it I may.

Crewman6 said...

So far, they've been pretty easy. Last night's bananas especially- I have a lot in the bank for Ape Atoll.

Crewman6 said...

So far they're still pretty easy. Last night's Soul Wars task was the toughest yet, because the lag made it nearly impossible to play.

Sam said...

I just got a chinchompa. I named him Flopsy. :P Have you got one?

Crewman6 said...

Yep, mine is named "Sparks". Monique got one, and she's been loving it and caring for it... she was heartbroken when she found out they explode after they grow up.

I'm not sure if mine will grow up before the deadline on the 16th. Hope they let us finish raising them!

Sam said...

I've stopped feeding mine ever since I found out they explode! "Sorry Flopsy, you won't grow any more." By the way I like Sparky as a name. :) One of my other friends named theirs Chloe. I was so tempted to name mine Jack. Good old 24 reunion!

Crewman6 said...

I'm kind of disappointed that on the final day, they took away the remaining chinchompas, but left their food in the bank. I had hoped they'd let us at least finish feeding them. Mine never grew up!

Still working on Divination, but doing Daemonheim tasks too. Nearly done with them, might finish this weekend.

What's your focus these days?

Sam said...

I haven't really had much time to play lately. But when I can I'm just woodcutting.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like a good way to relax.
Monique and I did the last of the Sagas this morning, which was my last Dungeoneering task. Now I have the aura 4, which should help get those last few levels.

Sam said...

Nice. I think the max Aura I have is at level 3. It's a lumberjack one.

Crewman6 said...

Works well with your woodcutting. Do you have the lumberjack outfit too? Every boost helps.

Sam said...

No, I tried the activity once when I was a much lower level... I remember loosing my first rune chest plate. :'( :P
Anyway, what do you think of the bonds?

Crewman6 said...

I bet you'd do much better now. :^)
The Bonds? I can't say I see any immediate benefit to me... but if they'll cut down on bots, I'm happy. I'm also glad for people to be able to buy their memberships with game gold. That's a pretty awesome benefit for non-members who can't afford real cash.

Sam said...

That's what I thought too. It makes the game free (with all the members bonuses) if you are playing lots, or just if can't afford the membership. I think it is a neat idea! It also allows someone to give a friend some membership without the friend giving have to spend real world gold. I think it is a good update. However I think Gold Farmers may disagree with me. :P

Crewman6 said...

I'm sure you're right! I'd like to see prices stabilize. Gold has been so devalued by the farmers it's driven prices up beyond ridiculous.

Sam said...

Could've said it better myself!

Crewman6 said...

:^)

Monique and I have been doing Hard Mode in the dungeons now. She's hitching a ride with me until her Divination gets high enough to finish her tasks. We've done about 13 floors so far. Not a lot of time for it, so just a bit here and a bit there.

Sam said...

Nice.

Crewman6 said...

Had our big yard sale this weekend, then family over on Sunday. Not much time for gaming. Enjoying DG and DV whenever I get the chance. They fixed DG hard mode, so I don't have to solo large floors any more. That's a big relief!

Sam said...

Cool. It's always good to have nice family breaks in between gaming. :)

Crewman6 said...

You're absolutely right - It was nice having family over, both for the yard sale, and the surprise visit the day after. We were originally having friends over to watch Sherlock, but they had to cancel. Turned out to be perfect timing, when our nephew and his girlfriend showed up for the day!

Sam said...

That's nice. :) (btw that was not a "THats nice..." it was a genuine, "That's nice.")

Crewman6 said...

I knew that. :^)
You're a good friend with a good heart.

Sam said...

I'm also a friend with a late response! Sorry about that. So what is the game like with a max cape? I've been meaning to ask you this for a while. Do you feel like there is less variety in the things you do?

Crewman6 said...

:^D
The only thing truly neat about the max cape is having the stats it comes with. As far as nothing to do, I keep thinking I'll relax and just 'play', but they keep coming up with updates!
If I ever get Div and Dung finished, I plan to try and improve my combat. I'm horrible, and would like to beat the QBD, and the Fight Kiln, and the Dominion Tower, none of which I'm capable of yet. Not to mention all the other bosses. Jad's the toughest boss I've beaten, and I want to get better.

I really don't think I'll ever find out what it'll be like to have 'nothing to do' in Runescape.

How's life been for you recently? PVP, cutting trees, or something new?

Sam said...

Pretty much I've been training Prohibited up on oldschool for 70 strength. I'm also just doing woodcutting on Samorak and occasionally slowly working my way on the CW Hobbies cape.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds like you're enjoying whatever strikes the mood at the time. I'd like to do that, but have this ocd thing that makes me want to 'finish' one goal before starting another. Really tired of Div, but want that 99.

Sam said...

My way is more fun. However I'm not getting either thing done efficiently.

Sam said...

I'm getting back into 07 now because nobody is really playing castle wars on the cw worlds or any other world that I can think of.

Crewman6 said...

You're right- your way is a lot more fun! Still, I just hit Div 93 this morning, and I only need 6 mil exp to get the last dung level.

Dungeoneering Hard Mode is fun, but only for a floor at a time. It's slow, but making progress.

I'm kind of glad RS isn't doing any major updates this month. It's all structural stuff to improve the game. New content is great, but they've really been cranking it out this year.

Sam said...

Did you hear the live stream on twitch about new things for rs?

Sam said...

I'm getting back to kbd now. I'm at 406 kill-count. It is way better than woodcutting!

Crewman6 said...

I think I missed some important news somewhere. Is there something about a new "Inventor" skill? What else is happening? I've been so busy at work I've pretty much quit writing at night for a while. As a result, I'm not keeping up with the news so well either.

KBD does indeed sound like a lot more fun. 406? That's a lot of time spent there!

I'm still doing div. It's doing dark and twisted things to me... I actually LIKE it now! :^D

(Though when that 99 comes around, all you'll see is a dust trail as I head out to do exciting things again!)

Sam said...

Awesome that you are starting to like it!
So yeah, there will be a new inventor skill. Also, eventually we will get to vote on who lives and who dies. Bandos or Armadyle?

Crewman6 said...

From what I know at the moment, Armadyl sounds like my choice to live. Guess we'll see when they have the event. Wonder if they'll destroy another city?

Been a productive last three days... hit 120 Dungeoneering on Thursday, 99 Div on Friday, and added "Of Daemonheim" to my name on Saturday.
Now I'm just relaxing!

Sam said...

Wow nicely done! -btw sorry for my late response

Crewman6 said...

No problem. :^)
I watched a video by munclesonkey on killing Gladius in the Ascension dungeon. Tried it myself, the profits are huge. Can't really figure out why nobody's ever there when I go. But I'm glad it's not full like the Grottworms used to be.

How's the KBD countdown going? Getting closer?

Sam said...

Nicely done. I really haven't been able to play rs as much as I have wanted to so KBD is only about 5 kills higher.

Crewman6 said...

Yeah, same here. Been busy with Thanksgiving stuff- Monique's family here for late lunch, my folks place for supper, I'll be too busy socializing to get much RS time in! :^)

Sam said...

Hey. I'm sorry I haven't been around lots. Runescape, along with more computer time just was not able to fit into my life. Anyway, it is now. So how have you been holding up? :)

Crewman6 said...

Hi Sam, glad to hear from you! I haven't been playing as much as I used to, or writing either. I play when I can, but mostly just POP and some light pvm. Today's updates might re-spark my interest. I think Revolution might be a lot of fun.
For fun these days I'm spending more time reading, or model-building. Monique and I both enjoy the hobby, she builds monsters and I like super-heroes.
It's good to hear from you, I'm glad you're doing well.

Sam said...

Awesome! I'm happy your doing well. :) For the past little while I was working on writing a novel. It's going well. It's a sort of fantasy magic theme (fiction ofc :P). I'm still working on it yet it was my main priority then. Anyway, it's great to be back.

Sam said...

It's so nice to be back. I'm making youtube videos again, I'm doing all the nostalgic little things that you can do in 07. ...So fun.

Crewman6 said...

A novel? How's it progressing? (I can't imagine why you'd be interested in fantasy/magic... it's not like we've played an fpr for the last few years!!) You'll have to keep me updated on it.
I'm glad you're enjoying RS again. Sometimes I go through cycles; I only have time for so many hobbies, they all have to take turns. I spent a few happy hours yesterday painting a Conan model. It was a lot of fun, even though I realized later (doing all the pieces separately) that the legs don't match the body. Hopefully a bit of touch-up will fix that.

Sam said...

Yeah I'll try and find some way to send it to you once it is done. And I am totally the same way! I usually go in cycles between games and other fun hobbies.

Anyway this, is a little bit about the book I'm writing (without spoiling it): First off: I'm trying to appeal to the market of teenagers and children ages 10-12+. So I'm also trying to make the book full of action, yet have some set-up in the less active parts. So it takes place in the modern world (today! not tommorrow, today! :P)and we have our main character: anonymous until page 50. It is written in first person. So our main character finds out he was abducted at school. He then searches for a way out, and tries to remember his captors. He later finds out that there is another society ahead of the humans. They are able to do much greater things because they each posses different, and unique abilities. I'll keep you updated on how it's going, but that is a good sort of informal back of the book! :P

Crewman6 said...

I'd like that. It sounds a lot like the kind of books I enjoy reading. I'm reading a series right now that's very light reading (actually written for women, but it's a great story in it's own right). It's about a girl who's never met her father, and only recently learned her mother spent years hiding her from him, and that she's inherited some very unusual abilities from him. I think over the course of the series he may become the main bad guy.
Keep up the work- writing takes a lot of effort, but I know you can do a great job.

Sam said...

Does sound like a good novel...

Sam said...

This new pure I'm training up is taking ages. On 07 levelling up is so so boring!

Crewman6 said...

But the nice thing is you really earn the respect doing it. When I first started playing Runescape, a lvl 138 walked by in the bank, and everybody was whispering about how cool that was. By the time I got to that level, it didn't have the same respect, but it still meant a lot. The game keeps getting easier.
By the way, have you checked out the new quest, or do you even play modern RS any more? I had hoped to try it tonight, but our dog went missing, and we're trying to find her.

Sam said...

I just play 07 now. By the way I'm so sorry for you. Just sucks how that can happen. :(

Crewman6 said...

Thanks, I appreciate it. Lucky, she turned up a couple of days later. Someone had found her running down the middle of the highway, picked her up, and taken her to an animal hospital. Eventually, word got back to us and I got her back.
That was a big relief for all of us!

Sam said...

Phew. So glad! Nice that it was a happy ending. :) Happy for not only you, but your dog too.

Crewman6 said...

Thanks Sam; her only regret is, she used to be the only dog of ours we could trust. Now that she's snuck out, she lost 'front of the house' privileges, and is restricted to the gated areas with the other dogs.

Did One of a Kind tonight. It was pretty easy for a grandmaster quest, but it had a good story. The new dragon rider amulet is pretty cool. It makes a Fury kind of pointless, but I hear rumors the Fury is due an upgrade. We'll see how it goes.

Sam said...

Sounds like a neat quest. My friend today saw that you can get some type of boots that give you agility xp by walking. Anyway he bought squeal spins to get the charges for them, and he barely got any... but he won 200m! No joke, I was so surprised when he told me.

Sam said...

Just uploaded my first pk vid with Grave 99. If you want, you can check it out. It's my newest post on my channel (Samorak 99). I've worked hard on the editing, training to get to this point (urg... what a grind...) and the pking. If you could check it out, it would be great! My goal is 100 views and 10 likes.

Crewman6 said...

Monique got parts for the boots, and I got one part. But we don't need the exp, and didn't want to spend money to get the boots. But wow, 200 Million!!! Just, wow. That's like 3 months of doing nothing but making money...

I'm at the end of my lunch break atm, but when I get home tonight I'll check out your video and like it. Video is a lot of hard work!

Sam said...

Wow. Well done to both of you for that! And thanks for checking out the vid.

Crewman6 said...

She's not 99 in every skill, but she's getting there. Neither of us will ever get a completionists cape. We just have too many other things that need to be done.

NP on checking your vid. I enjoy seeing what you make. Keep up the good work.

Sam said...

Thanks! :D

Crewman6 said...

Monique and I are doing the miniquest Mahjarrat Memories. Not sure how it's a mini-quest when it takes 5 hours to do. Guess because it's simple. Reminds me of "One Small Favor" that we did a long time ago. It just keeps going, and going...

Sam said...

Hated that tiny favour...

Sam said...

Dyog 2 is done! I'm going to upload it Monday morning.

Crewman6 said...

Checked it out - I never understood the appeal of pk, but all my experiences have been being ambushed when I had to go into the wilderness. It's very interesting to see how most of the people you fight are very polite about it. :^)

Lots of hard work goes into your editing - did that take most of the weekend? Good work!

Sam said...

I edit it as I go. And usually, people are never that respectful, however because I don't skull they have no reason to just attack me before I show them the gp risk I have on me.

Crewman6 said...

That's a smart way to do it.
Too bad about the courtesy - I was beginning to re-think my feelings about pk'ing!

Sam said...

It's fine as long as you can 2 hit them lol! :P Anyway, dyog 3 is out just so you know.

I noticed you tend to take them out quickly. Just watched the new vid, came here to let you know I liked it, and saw you'd already left a comment. Your training method must be extremely effective.

Sam said...

I'm definitely improving. The next step is to go up against other maulers.

Crewman6 said...

Good luck - looks like you know exactly what you're doing!

Sam said...

First fight against a mauler: he ran out of food, and tabbed.
Second fight against a mauler: I lagged and he KOed me with a 4.

Crewman6 said...

Aw man, what a way to start! I just noticed your newest vid, but have to leave for work. I'll check it out tonight.

Sam said...

Sweet. :)

Crewman6 said...

That was fun to watch. I was going to ask who the cheerleader was, until I read your comment!

Sam said...

I wanted to give him a shoutout for that. He's a nice guy and I never even asked him to cheer me on, he just did it. :)

Crewman6 said...

That's pretty cool. Sounds like a good friend.

Crewman6 said...

Liked your last couple of videos- it was cool to see the fights in real time and hear your thoughts as you fought. One suggestion - break the longer videos up into shorter segments. I wound up watching the longest one over the course of 3 or 4 sittings. Otherwise, good work!

Sam said...

Ok, thanks!

Sam said...

Finally dyog 5 is done.

Crewman6 said...

His training is done? If you keep going, can you over-train him?

Sam said...

I haven't been training just because I enjoy the level I'm at right now.

Crewman6 said...

That sounds like the perfect reason to stop training!

Sam said...

Just did 1-40 cooking in about an hour... forgot how easy that skill was!

Crewman6 said...

That's fast - brings back memories of fishing for prawn to get my fishing and cooking started!
Nothing new for us - haven't done the latest quest yet. When I play, it's basically POP and MVP for money. Kind of a holding pattern.

Sam said...

Dyog 6 is comin along slowly but surely.

Crewman6 said...

That's cool. There's no rush, the fun parts in getting there.

Crewman6 said...

Monique and I finally did the Ashdale quest. It was a lot easier than I expected, with the scaleable combat. They had the potential to hit hard, but mostly didn't. And their hit points didn't seem scaled like the combat, so they died quick.
The only tough spot was the final guards. There were several of them on a patrolled path. If any see you, you're automatically dead. So I died once with that last bunch.

Sam said...

Aw, but good that you got it done in the long run! :)

Crewman6 said...

You're right - for the years we've been playing, questing together has been like 'dates' for Monique and me. Even the ones that drive us crazy!

Sam said...

Every quest drives me crazy lol.

Crewman6 said...

I hear that! Some are kind of fun, but both of us really stress over the ones with extra tough bosses, like Nomad was before eoc.

By the way, I just watched your latest video and really liked it. The duration was spot on, and the variety kept it interesting as well.

Sam said...

Thanks!

On a far worse subject... Today I had the worst pking morning. First this obby mauler wants to fight me, I get 180k gp to match his risk (because I don't skull). Then once we are fighting we get interrupted by a d bow spec, that ends up killing me. I'm fine if I die to the obby mauler, it was a fair fight, but to a rusher, that just makes me annoyed. So then I come back into the wildy. A ranger would like to fight me. I say ok. I drink my potions. They log out. I wait there for a minute encase they just disconnected, but they don't return. It's just annoying to have people like this who somehow get off of this.

Crewman6 said...

I'm sorry to hear that- know exactly what you mean, it's one of the reasons I don't play RS socially. You're right, totally. A fair risk taken and lost is fine, but to lose without a fair chance is annoying. I sometimes wish life came with immediate feedback. When people did mean things, it would bounce back on them right then and there!! :^)

Sam said...

Sometimes happens eventually... Yet it's like saying "No." to a dog 10 minutes after they did something 'no' worthy.

Sam said...

So I've started playing oldschool with Samorak again. He's going to be my main from now on.

Sam said...

So what have you been up to?

Crewman6 said...

Nothing much on Runescape. Been killing Frost Dragons, but with the cloak of seasons, I'm just killing time trying to collect the pieces. Also been Dungeoneering with the bonus stuff that came out this week. Got the first 2 new pets, have to get some more dg tokens for the final one.
Off-RS, we got a new printer so I can work on a new project for ebay. Now that I'm not blogging for a second income, and Amazon didn't work out well, I needed something else to help supplement the income. Going to be selling book collections on disc. It's a very slow process, using public domain resources. Won't be making anything for a while yet, but I'm working on my first collection. Sometimes I just think I need something to make me feel like I'm working for myself, rather than a lifetime spent working for someone else. It's not the money, it's the sense of doing something beyond "a job".

Sam said...

I totally agree with you, I started a small sort of our of the garage nursery. I'm not making much but its the feeling that your working for you, and it's something that you enjoy.

Crewman6 said...

I had always hoped to be working for myself as I edged near retirement age. Not sure it'll happen, but it's important to keep trying.
Monique and I did the new quest last night, The Mighty Fall. I liked it a lot, except for all the random running around. The combat was perfect for me. Hard enough to make me really work for it, but not beyond my skill.

Sam said...

Nice. What were the rewards like?

Crewman6 said...

Lots of combat experience bonuses,a new weapon that's boostable to level 75. Shame it can't be boosted higher, I kind of liked it.
My Arm can change the Trollheim teleport to set you right outside the big rock on the way to the God Wars Dungeon. I don't go there much right now, but it's a useful change.
Some other stuff, a new title (Champion), 2 quest points, improved drops from Bork, nothing major.
If the weapon ever gets boostable to a level 90, I'd love it.

Sam said...

Awesome. I hope it does! :)

Sam said...

Awesome. I hope it does! :)

Crewman6 said...

Now it's pretty much business as usual. The Legacy combat mode looks interesting, but I don't know if I'll prefer it to the current setup.
What's your take? Will it bring back PVP in the moder Runescape?

Sam said...

I definitely think that once legacy is released into the game the wildy will be packed. I think it will die down over time as most new things do, yet I do believe it will bring many people back to RS3. I just hope it doesn't completely empty 07rs. I tried the beta the other day too. I've gotta say I dislike the animations, yet overall it was well done. I can't wait until it arrives!

Sam said...

I'm really into legacy. It's not perfect, but I find myself having fun on it.

Crewman6 said...

Hopefully they'll blend it permanently into RS3 so we'll have the choice.
What do you think about the rock golem outfit? Monique and I were going to make a serious effort to get it, but the odds are ridiculous. 5 days to collect 15 uncommon items? It would break my bank to buy that many tickets. I'm still tempted, for the non-aggo at LRC, but still...

Sam said...

I actually didn't know it existed until just now! :P My thought on it, is go for it, but for the next little while just every day say do something like an hour of cutting magic logs. Just make up for it over time by doing a bit more money making a day. I'm sure there are better money making methods, that was just an example. :)

Crewman6 said...

I agree with you, and that's exactly what we did. I gave Monique 100mil, and we both bought bonds. I'm not sure how many it took her, but I had to spin 85 times to get the entire 15 pieces.
The immunity to LRC aggression was totally worth it. And I figure in maybe 2 to 3 months I'll make the money back. Pretty much all of my play is spent making money (aside from the occasional quest or sinkhole.)

I do pretty well with Gladius, and now I'll be fishing up those Rocktail!

(For a change, the graphics are awesome - this is a cool looking set.)

Sam said...

Awesome! I'm glad it worked out! :) Sorry for the late response too I've just been busy with personal stuff.

Crewman6 said...

No problem, I've been kind of slow too. Monique was pretty ill the last couple of weeks, I used up all my vacation time taking care of her. But at least I had it when I needed it. (Not like we ever go anywhere... a vacation to me is just quiet time at home.)
Anyway, now they've got the baby Rhino. Looks cute, we're both working on the questions. Easy to answer, but only one per day.

Sam said...

Yeah I heard about that update, sounds fun! It's great to raise awareness for them too. I think once legacy is released I'll really get back into rs.

Crewman6 said...

Got both rhinos. They look pretty good, but so many people have them it kind of takes away any specialness about them. For me, Baby Jad is still my favorite pet. He took a lot of work.

I'm really glad they're going to blend legacy into modern RS. It's nice to be able to choose, instead of having it forced on us. Comes out Monday, should be interesting.

The elf city is getting closer. Looks to be one of the largest updates in a long time, covering a huge area and a broad amount of skills. Should take a while to fully explore.

Sam said...

I love legacy. I am totally into it! What are your thoughts? By the way, I still can't believe the perfect mix of ferocity, and cuteness they did for the baby jad!

Sam said...

Dyog 9 is coming along well, should be out sometime in early September. What have you been up to lately?

Crewman6 said...

Hi Sam,
Sorry I've been off the grid recently. Still doing maintenance in RS, but RL has had me off my feed.
I tried Legacy for a while, but guess I was spoiled by Revolution, so went back to that. Was hoping to do Arraxor when he came out, but it looks to be beyond my fighting skills.
I found out about the cosmetic improved Fire Cape recently, so I'm going to take another shot at the Fight Kiln. Never beat it way back when, I'm hoping I can do better now.

How's things been for you?

Sam said...

Good. I had a quick little three day vacation recently. It was just sort of nice to get out of the house.

Crewman6 said...

That sounds very nice. I could use a bit of time off, but it's not likely to happen for a while.
Regarding the Fight Kiln, it's much easier now. Mainly because I've got Obsidian Armor, and all the other TzHaar-fighting stuff. I studied it for a while, watched a few recent videos, and when I went to try it, won three in a row, in each fighting style. So I've got my Enhanced Fire Cape, and it wasn't nearly as hard as I'd feared.

Sam said...

Nice. I`m going to try to go for the fire cape again. Wish me luck!

Crewman6 said...

Lots of luck! Though you probably don't need luck, your fighting skills are better than mine.
All I can say is, if it gives you trouble, Obsidian Armor!
After all the trouble I had with him, I'm kind of fond of Jad now.

Currently, Monique and I are working on the new quest, but I also want to learn how to QBD. I think I can, but it may take a while.

Sam said...

Missed a couple of prayer switches and what do you know, im dead. *sigh*

Crewman6 said...

That's a shame- it's a lot of effort to get all the way to Jad then lose it. I'm prone to missing prayer switches too, but with Obsidian it just doesn't matter as much.

I beat QBD. Got so I could get six kills per trip, which was pretty darn cool to me!

Sam said...

Damn nicely done!

Crewman6 said...

Thanks - I was afraid of her for years. Finally went for it!

Sam said...

My video uploading schedule has changed a bit. I'm going to post an update video some time soon talking about it. Hopefully its doable for me, but it will definitely mean more consistent uploads for the viewers.

Crewman6 said...

Sounds really ambitious- I hope it works out!
I'm still playing Runescape, but really slowed down recently. An old favorite game of mine (from 30 years ago) is being remade, and for a price you can be a beta tester and play it while still in developement. So I am... :^)
It's called Elite: Dangerous, and it's a space combat/trade simulator.

So if you don't see me playing as much, I'll be someone out among the stars.

Sam said...

Wow that's awesome! So happy for you! :D

Crewman6 said...

Thanks, I appreciate it! I'm not as good as I used to be at flying... guess the brain cells have gotten older... but it's still fun.

Runescape brought out the expert skillcapes- they're just for looks, but it was fun collecting them. Monique still has a couple of 99's to get, but she's almost there.

Sam said...

Just got my Castle Wars Hobbyist cape! So stoked to have 500 games under my belt!

Crewman6 said...

That's awesome- after playing 10 years (give or take a bit) I've play 5 games. Your fortitude is impressive!
I've been busy this weekend working on my blog, have you posted a video for it? (Will check in a moment)

Sam said...

Not yet. I'm stocking up on videos so when I decide to use my new schedule, I'm ahead of the game a bit.

Crewman6 said...

I wondered why I haven't seen a new video yet. That should be fun when you have a backlog of videos, and can just release them whenever you want. Hard work done, just enjoy.
How do you like the elf city? I know there's not much point in skilling, but I still like it a lot. It's a fun place to be, with lots to do, and I still haven't learned my way around yet.
